  1. I wasn't hungry at all until 6 days post op, but I've had restriction... after you eat something semi-solid, does it make you feel full at all? Some do, some don't... which is why this period is called "bandster hell". I'm sorry you're not feeling it yet!
  2. If your surgery practice doesn't have a nutritionist, then yes, you should get one.
  3. I really have to think you're misunderstanding the directions. You're saying you're expected to exist on 14 ounces of fluids per day?!? A drink is not a food. Are you SURE, have you verified with your doctor, that when he says "half a cup at a serving 3 times a day" that he means that serving to be your liquids? I was told 60 grams of protein per day minimum, from the day after surgery. You're getting what... maybe 20 grams total?
  4. I was banded on the 12th so tomorrow is my 2 week date- I've lost 15 pounds since surgery! Woot! My husband keeps yelling at me to stop weighing myself every day but it's sort of hard not to In the last week I was having days where I barely had more than my shakes but the satisfaction I was getting every time I ate isn't lasting as long as it was then... I was thinking "gosh if this is me without any liquid in the band, I'll barely need a fill at all" but I guess as the swelling decreases, food is passing through the band quicker. A normal day for me so far is around 800 calories, 70-80g Protein. Tomorrow's my first post op check in and I'm crossing my fingers that I get the all clear to move to mushy foods. I'd just like to chew stuff every once in a while.
  5. I use Viactiv chocolate multivitamin chewables.
  6. Think about it- your stomach is going to be very sore. So much so that bending, getting out of chairs, getting out of a REGULAR bed will be painful. Now think about how much bending is involved in setting up a tent, getting in and out of camp chairs, cooking around a campfire, sleeping on an air mattress/camp mattress/sleeping bag... I wouldn't do it. No way. And honestly you'll be in no shape to take care of someone else, never mind a large number of someone else(s), a day after surgery. I'm sure some will disagree with me but I highly suggest delaying your surgery if you can. Or not going camping.
  7. I can't wait to get on mushy foods- tomorrow. As long as I'm cleared by the doctor tomorrow AM. YAY!!!!
  8. A heating pad is my #1 must have. I also just recently found protein shakes taste SO much better if you blenderize them, so a blender if you don't have one already.
  9. I itched too, because I had a rash all over my belly from the iodine sheeting stuff they use... but if you're itching at the incisions, I don't think that itching would be from any sort of allergic reaction, so I don't think Benadryl would work? The PA at my practice had me take liquid Benadryl for the itching, but I don't know if it'd work in your case...
  10. Great update Justin, I'm glad that you're moving along with your surgery footwork and with your Methadone treatment!
  11. I wish you great success!
  12. Yes, that's the incision they use to put the band and tubing and port in. Tends to be painful for the longest. I wish you good healing!
  13. LOL- sounds lovely! That was my favorite thing about the Percoset- it made me so darn HAPPY Take it easy, but not too easy- slow and steady!!
  14. You had 2cc in there already?? Holy moly! I wish I could tell you something helpful about puking, but... I got nothing. Seems to me like it'd be harder to empty the contents of the "rest" of your stomach if you had to get it all up past the band, right?
  15. Yes, it leaves me feeling weak and wiped out as well, though I'm now on "full" liquids. Gosh, I can't imagine only protein shakes and clear liquids for three weeks, you poor thing I would call your surgeon Monday morning and ask if you can be moved to full liquids now that you've been banded almost 2 weeks. It really does help you to feel more human.
  16. I also have BCBS (different state) that requires a 6 month wait period. I had to submit records from my wls program, AND I had to submit 6 months of food logs. I would imagine just invoices aren't enough because you're not proving you ATE the right way? While you did WW did you keep your journals?
  17. Congratulations! I'd hit Target for "cheap" clothes that look modern.
  18. The PA at my surgeon's office specifically recommended it... so I use it.
  19. If you're on an all liquid diet, it just makes sense that what comes out of you is going to be pretty much liquid too, doesn't it? My wls practice warned of very loose stools for a couple of weeks after surgery since I'm taking in so many liquids, and they were right on. I wouldn't be concerned unless your Protein drink is causing other problems.
  20. Takes a while. I'm oh... 10 days post op? Something like that and my port still hurts when I bend over or stretch a weird way. Or poke it.
  21. Yes totally normal. I took a gulp of Maalox and it helped, or try taking some fiber if you're worried, but you're not constipated- you just don't have anything that needs to get out.
  22. None of my pre-op testing showed my hiatal hernia, so I was surprised when I was out of surgery and told that my surgeon found and repaired one. When I spoke with him the next day, he said that of the 3 bands he placed that day, the other 2 patients also had hernias, but theirs showed on pre-op testing-- mine didn't, and mine was the biggest of the 3. I do think it affects healing time and post-op pain, but not too much. http://www.webmd.com/heartburn-gerd/hiatal-hernia
  23. How about adding in some avocados? High cal and full of the good fats Oh and DELICIOUS...
  24. The bowel movement thing is normal since you're not taking in solids. I took a dose of liquid Maalox and it fixed the problem, other people take Fiber often. Are you having any other source of Protein other than SlimFast? You need to do your best to get in your protein every day (my surgeon says 60g/ daily) so you can heal well.
