Lap Band Surgery Week of May 23rd - 27th, 2011
Hello All my Band-Sisters abd Band-brothers!! I was banded on May 25th-sore alittle and walking slow-but no real gas pains! Tok my first shower today-felt good! Went to a BBQ but didn't eat anything-just sipped on my water which was fine. CAme home drank 4oz protein shakes. I stopped my Patmark and found Luigi's Italian Ice -I gotthe banana and choc favor and it is SO awesome. I am not sure if this is really allowed, but I know icey pops are so what's the big difference? Feels like a real treat!!!

So nervous about husband coming home from Iraq
Becca, I agree-don't focus on the loose skin focus on how fabulous you look and how wonderful it will be to see your hubby! Buy a sexy dress-yes sexy and a good push up bra-go all out!! Get a cute nightie the covers the right spots. This is a celebation!! If he loved you at 260 he's not going to care about loose skin!! I would suggest even getting a glamour photo done so he can have it when he goes back. Good luck girl-you've got this!!

Bandwagon
It'snot available on KIndle but I sure wish it was!! I am feeling a little better each day-still sore. I can drink 4ozs at a time but anymore really gets me full. Today I am getting a shower-that should make me feel a lot better! How are you feeling?!

I'm new..
Include your preop diet-it's all a part of the banding process. Haven't gotten to the itching stage yet-looking for some responses to that.. My surgeon also said the first 6 weeks is all about healing and if you're not losing weight not to worry about it (he actually made me repeat that phrase 3 times!). I was banded on the 25t and I can't really eat/drink a lot at all-half a glass at a time. Good luck on your journey!!

It's hard to be the cook...
I think the key is to get a schedule going. Have a rock pot meal for 2 days a wek-that's easy! Sunday night is a good time to put everything in the pot and ready to go for the morning. Also making a dish that will serve for 2 dinners. For me this means lasagna (again this can be prepared pretty much the night before. Left overs can be frozen. It's BBQ season and that makes for quicks easy meals with little mess. Men usually like taking over the grill so that might help. It's hard I know!! Don't be afraid to buy some prepackaged foods for some dinners too!

3 days post op!
Well today is my 3rd day since surgery and I am starting to feel a little better. Fortunately, I did not have issues with gas pains although I took a the Gas-x strip anyway. My main isssue has been soreness-but that's getting better too. Getting all my liguids in has been a real effort since I get that sensation that I need to stop. I haven't been real hungry-butthe bacon that my daughter is cooking right now does smell good! lol We have been invited to a friends BBQ-no one there knows about my surgery. The only person that knows at this point is my hubby, but I eventually tell my daughters (19 & 24). ANyway I have mixed feelings about the BBQ-part of me wants to get out of the house. The other part thinks it might be too soon after surgery. I won't be able to eat at all-we told them I have a stamach virus which isn't a complete lie since I have Gastretious (sp). I guess I'll take a shower and see how I feel.

Bandwagon
I highly advise everyone waiting to get banded or those recently banded to get the book: Bandwagon here is the website: http://jean-onthebandwagon.blogspot.com/ This is a wonderful resource and the woman who wrote the book was banded. It's written in plain lan guage and an easy read. I took it to the hospital with me. It has a list of things to bringto the hospital, a list of questions to ask the doc after surgery, etc. Really useful stuff. The book is $20 but totally worth every pennny. I ordered from Amazon and it took about 3-4 days. Good luck to everyone out there!!

Day 4 post op...shake issues
Don't go against the doctor's orders. It sounds like you are hungry because you are not getting enough protein. Protein fills you up. I agree try the Optipure - I dilute it with some crystal light (1/2 and 1/2) and it goes down fine. Make your jello with Unjury unflavored protein. You need the proetin in liquid form-your pouch is still healing and I wouldn't suggest pushing it too far with mushies when you are suppose to be on liquids. You CAN do this-it's not forever. I bought decaf Chia tea and I love it! Call your nutritionist and explain your concerns-also be honest about what you have been eating. Good luck to you!!

So im addicted to Lapband
Welcome!! I's a good thing to be addicted to the research-it means your serious and wantto be well-educated! Congrats on deciding to take this big step!! I received a letter from my insurance company that congratulated me on decidingto have this done (they covered everything) but also letting me know they won't be covering cosmetic surgery. I think most insurance companies won't cover the tummy tucks or breasts.

Had surgery today
My doc said I could take Tyenol PM (sp). I also hold a pillow against my side. I feel comfortable on my right side with pillows under my legs. Sometimes I feel good laying half upright. Take some pain killers right before you go to bed and that should help-don't eat rught before bed either. Sweet dreams of a skiiny body!

Lap Band Surgery Day Stories
First, thank you so much for the support and encouragement! Now here's the details: Surgery scheduled for 1:30 but didn't go in until 2pm. My husband stayed by my side up until the point and gave me a kiss as they wheel me in. There was a small TV screen and lots of nurses. I remember them giving me a shot through my IV and thinking they better get me on the operating table quick because I know this works fast. Sure enough that was the last thing I remember. I woke up in recovery thinking no way is this reversal because I was in a lot of pain and couldn't imagine going through it again, but Part of my problem was an IV that was not fully funcioning. They asked how much pain I was in and I said a 7 (1-10), but I would highly advised you to not feel like you're exaggerating and be honest so they give you meds faster. I was on morphine drip but they gave me a needle of pain kilers with helped a lot. I was in recovery 2 hours until they managed the pain while my husband was in the waiting room. They didn't know he was inthe waiting room and I think he could have been in recovery with me. So ask when you're in recovery is yr spouce can be with you. They took me to a private room. I was pretty dopey and at one point I just really wanted to sleep so at 7pm I told my Hubby to go home. But I couldn't sleep the entirenight because I had to keep pushing the morphine button every 10 minutes. The best thing I brought to the hospital was my ipod because I could close my eyes and relax. ...

can i drive myself to surgery?
There is no way you can drive home after surgery-absolutely no way. They wheel you out tothe front door and make sure someone is waiting for you before they release you. They won't even let you take a cab unless someone other than the cab driver is there-you will be sore and out of it a little. If you drove tothe hospital who would drive your car home? It's so much better to have someone by your side throughout this process. When I git out of surgery I was so happy to see myhubby! Forget the play-there will be lots of other things to go to-have someone record it and watch it together when you get home! This is about you and your health comes first. My nurse even advised me against going to malls the first few days because of the chance of picking up an infection.

Mushies
Found this on another site thought I'd share-I'm not on mushies yet but can't wait!! Top fat-free ricotta cheese with spaghetti sauce and low-fat mozzarella. Bake until bubbly. Mash hot cooked cauliflower together with Greek yogurt and low-fat cream cheese. Cut a hard-boiled egg in half, remove the yolk, and fill the space with hummus. (Smash well with a fork to eat.) Top fat-free refried beans or pureed black beans with smooth salsa and fat-free plain yogurt, cottage cheese, or sour cream.

unhappy hubby
My Husband was the same way-supportive then as the surgery day neared closer I got the silent treatment-I think it was his nerves and worrying. Men just can't come out and say they are worried-they show it in other ways. But on the day of the surgery he was truly amazing and still is 2 days later. It will all work out!!

Day After Surgery
The day after surgery I was wheel to the xray place and drank chalky white stuff. Everything looked good. The doctors came in and said everything went fine. I have 6 incisions which I thought was odd and a larger one by my belly button-he said that was for the camera. The other incisions looks very small. he port gave me a lot of pain and holding a pillow to it helped a lot. I could barely eat anything the day after surgery. The day of surgery they didn't give me anything to eat or drink-my throat was dry and sore I had a raspy voice. The chicken broth was good-but only 1 shot glass at a time. So far no major gas, but I realize I am not home free and it could happen at any time. A little acid reflux which I am taking meds for. I slept pretty good on my right side thanks to Tynelol (sp)with codine. Today I have to force myself to walk around a little. I am a slow healer. It just feels like I have been punched in the stomache a few times. I still can't eat much but I love my icy pops! Make sure you get some sugar free pops for the freezer-yummy! I am invited to a BBQ tomorrow-I am up in the air whether I feel like stopping by or not. Thanks again for everything!!

Today is MY DAY!
I am leaving in an hour-surgery isn't until 1:30 though. Good luck and let us know how you make out!!

what happens if you start your preop diet late?
Probably not the wisest move especially since your suppose to help skrink the liver with this diet. Be very strict the next few days and you should be fine! Good luck with the surgery!

Pre op diet day 7....help!
Make sure you are drinking lots of water and take your vitiamins too! The high protein shakes should help too. Someone once wrote that they put a note up that said "I can do anything for ___ (insert how many days left) days. For example "I can do anything for 6 days" change the number each day. Sounds weird but it really helped me somehow. I had soup (low sodium french onion no cheese or bread of course) and I sliced mushrooms into it. It was like heaven!! Good luck you can do it!!!
