3 days post op with terrible colics....
Yes, I am taking Promethezine probably 3 times a day (can take it every 6 hours). I had chronic nausea before the surgery but mostly it hit in the morning like morning sickness and went away as soon as I ate. So I've also been taking Renitidine which is a PPI. I am going to really closely monitor my Water intake today and see how much I can get in. Sometimes its easier to drink the apple juice than the plain water. Which is weird for me because I was a water freak before the surgery and must have drank at least 100 oz a day.

3 days post op with terrible colics....
I am having the same problems. I am 5 days out and I can't seem to get much of anything in beyond a couple of very small bites. Every time I try to get anything down all I feel is rumbling and a feeling like it is going to come back up again. I don't think I have even gotten 20 oz of liquids in. I just feel so nauseous most of the time with the exception of right after I have taken a couple of small bites and then have to stop. Is this normal???

Game. ON. (3 days post-op)
Congratulations! I was sleeved the day before you and suffered with crazy nausea as well - never knew it could get that bad - your description was accurate! But by Wednesday morning I felt pretty good. Just got home a few minutes ago. So glad to be on the other side now. . . Good luck with your progress!

Tomorrow is the day! Any last minute words of wisdom?
Thanks everyone! And especially bchrist for the hopeful thoughts. I really do hope that I am expecting way worse than it will be :-) I'll check in with everyone as soon as I can get back on to a computer!

Tomorrow is the day! Any last minute words of wisdom?
My surgery is at 12:30pm tomorrow. I can't believe it's here already! Kind of nervous and kind of excited all at the same time. I've tried to really prepare myself for giving up food as I have known if for the past 57 years of my life :-) But I guess you can never be fully prepared for what it will really feel like to struggle at first to even get anything down. How were the first few days for all of you? I want to be prepared for the worst so that if it happens I am not surprised, and if it doesn't I am relieved. Maybe a little ridiculous but it works for me:biggrin0: Everyone has been such a tremendous help so thank you all!

Should i cancel Tomorrows Surgery?
My date is tomorrow too. And just so you know, my surgeon, who is one of Kaiser's best, only has be on liquids today and actually told me to have a regular breakfast and then just to clear liquids the rest of the day and evening. So don't worry. But you should tell your doctor if you did not comply with his protocol.

Almost there!!
Good luck to you on Monday! My surgery is at 12:30pm Pacific time. Wish it were earlier but that's ok. I just want to get it down and start the recovery. I'm going in expecting the worst for the first few days so that I am not shocked. . .LOL! It's been an interesting few weeks as I have been trying to mentally prepare myself that I should eat to live, not live to eat. What a novel concept, huh?

On to pureed foods, need recommendations.
I also would like to see some suggestions and ideas for pureed foods since my surgeon said that when I go home from the hospital I will be on pureed foods. Need some ideas everyone! Thanks :-)

Nails?
I've never had to remove my nails or polish and I have had multiple surgeries over the years. I remember back in the 70's I had to remove my polish but nothing in recent years. I just assumed that the technology had improved where they can tell via other methods how you are doing.

I Feel Like I'm Starving
Fleur - We are being sleeved on the same day! Like the others have said, I can't imagine that going off a little can hurt anything. I think I had told you my doctor told me just to do clear liquids on Sunday AFTER a regular breakfast so I am not even on clear liquids for 24 hours. And that was it for the pre-op diet. So don't stress yourself out if you put a couple of wrong things in your mouth. Later on, we won't be able to do that :-) I go my ticker at www.myfitnesspal.com. It is also where I am logging my food too. I always hated to write down what I ate but this is actually really cool because it shows all of the nutritional value etc too. And when you weigh in (whenever you'd like) and post the weight it automatically updates you ticker on this site. Very cool! Let's keep in touch so we can support each other!

Any ideas for pureed foods?
At my pre-op yesterday, my surgeon told me that I would go home and be on pureed foods. Anyone have any ideas?

Roasted Cauliflower Soup
I just realized that you have already had your surgery! So apparently your big "goof" was not a problem at all!!

Roasted Cauliflower Soup
SusieQ: How long are you on the pre-op diet? If it's more than a day or two you should be fine, I would think. My surgeon told me that I only have to be on it for less than a day. Maybe that's just his style but if you are saying that yours wasn't concerned about your liver then you can forgive yourself :-)

Anyone scheduled for September 27th?
I had my pre-op yesterday and am excited and a bit nervous at the same time. I have had chronic nausea for years now and they haven't figure out what is causing it so I just take nausea pills every morning. Dr. Belzberg said that with the sleeve it may get worse. He suggested the RNY but that is really too much and scares me a bit. So I am sticking with the sleeve and will deal with the nausea when it comes. I was surprised that I only have to do, not even a full day of clear liquids before the surgery. He said, have a normal breakfast and then clear liquids for the rest of the day on Sunday. I guess every doc does it differently.

Had my pre-op today!
Had the chance to sit down with my surgeon and ask questions etc. He was great and is clearly so good at what he does. I am ready - and so excited now!

Finally started to lose!
I was at my all time high when I first went to the orientation in August of 2009. By the time I started the 12 weeks of classes, I also had started a new pain medication for my spinal stenosis. I don't know if anyone has ever experienced this but I know it also happened to me when I was on Vicodin once. Once starting the meds, the weight started falling off and I lost almost 20 lbs in a couple of months. I think the Kaiser people thought I was losing because I was trying so hard, but the reality was that it was from the meds. So once my body got used to them and the classes wrapped up, guess what happened? You guessed it! The weight started coming back! Very depressing. So I had hit almost my all time high again two weeks ago after traveling for work quite extensively and I started to panic thinking that I would be denied at my surgical pre-op because I had gained weight. So 12 days ago I started using myfitnesspal.com and started entering everything that went into my mouth. I am one that never liked writing down all of my food etc, but this was really easy. I was so surprised when I stepped on the scale this morning and was down 11 lbs!!! Not down to where I was during class but I still have another 10 days until my surgery! Finally feel like I am accomlishing something!

Looking forward to it!!!

Just Crossed Over
That is fabulous! Isn't it funny how we can always remember what weight we were when? I do the exact same thing :-) Keep up the good work! I can't wait to be sleeved and start having such great successes!

what do you wish you knew before hand
Yes, please explain more about the hernia that you talk about? Is this something that was specific to your case or is it something that is standard with all sleeve patients? This is the first I have heard anything about a hernia situation.

What questions to ask at surgical pre-op?
Thank you SO much! This is great! Truly appreciated!

What questions to ask at surgical pre-op?
I am meeting with my surgeon on Friday, 9/17. I know I have seen alot of things on this wonderful board and have made notes but I just want to make sure that I gather all of the questions that I should be asking. Would you all be kind enough to share the questions that you asked? Or wished that you had asked? This board is wonderful, thanks so much!
