  1. I was on Lantus, Actos and Glucophage preop. The day after surgery until present I have been med free with normal blood sugars. I go back to the doctor for an hemoglobin A1C in two weeks I will see then how my sugar has been really doing without meds. Sleeve is the best thing I ever did.
  2. I just barely tolerate cottage cheese, and I have tried greek yogurt and it was nasty, but adding those syrups may do the trick. I am counting carbs too. Deb, how many carbs do you get in a day? I am having trouble sometimes getting any carbs in because I have a hard time trying to get all my protein in as I can not stand Protein drinks ever since surgery. I somtimes get 25 to 35 carbs in a day, do you think that too much I am only getting about 600 to 800 calories a day. By the way, I went to Perkins the other night, not sure if anybody has Perkins in your area or not, but they have a spicy mango talapia. It was so good. Of course I could only eat part of the talapia. My sister winded up eating my baked potato and the veggies were disgusting. I been having this fish thingy lately, baked of course. Oh well, I think I will try the syrup in the greek yogurt and that will help out a lot and give a lot of different taste instead of just the same old chicken salad and tuna salad all the time. Thanks for all your input it really helps a lot!!!!!
  3. Well, I know this probably has been asked a million time, well here goes a million and one. What are you normally eating after you are on mushies? I just need some new ideas on how much you eat and what you eat in a days time.
  4. Well I just wanted to show my progress. Sorry about the black and white picture, but that is the only way I could get it from the doctor's office. First picture done on 08-18-10 and then one month postop today 11-10-10.
  5. I tried a bunch of different Protein shakes prior to surgery and I could handle them all, but now since surgery, they make me a little sick to my stomach, so I have stayed away from them. My doctor allows his patients to go to mushies which I am only 2 weeks out. He said that a long as it can be blended up then eat it. Somethings are pretty gross blended, but I have found that tuna fish and chicken salad can be mushed up pretty good and I take my time and it goes down pretty good. Needless to say I can only eat about 2 to 3 ounces. I remember my NUT saying that getting protein from food is a lot better than the supplement anyway. Lisa
  6. Hi all, I am doing pretty good since my surgery on 10/18. I have been having one problem, not to drink anything for at least 20 to 30 minutes after I eat. I have always been a person who drinks with meals and I guess this is a real hard habit to break. Does anybody have any tips for me to stop doing this, did anybody else have problems with this too? Side note: This is my first day back to work. I can't believe all the compliments I have gotten on my weight loss for other employees. I have lost 33 pounds thus far and I can't believe what a difference it makes. I am off of my blood pressure medicines and all my diabetic medicines. Even if I don't lose any more weight (which I know I will), the surgery has been well worth it just for reversing those issues. I hope everyone has a great week. Lisa
  7. Nutrimed is the preop diet that my surgeon put me on. It is puddings, shakes and other things that have Protein in them. It is pretty hard, but I also know that the liquid preop diet is not fun either. Hope that helps you know. If you want to know more here is a website http://www.robard.com/ProgramsProducts/NutriMed.aspx. Lisa
  8. My surgery date is Oct 18 too. It is really getting close and I am getting really excited!!!
  9. Having one of those days where I think I am actually mourning the loss of food especially since I have been on Nutrimed since Monday. I begin to actually get jealous of everybody who can eat normal food. I know it sounds petty, but those thoughts have gone through my head right now. I think it is because I have to deal with my feelings and thoughts without the help of food. A big lesson to learn. I know with the Lord's help, I know I can make it through this. Anybody having those same thougths. :star: COUNTDOWN 10 DAYS TO SURGERY!!! :star:
  10. Thanks for the encouragement. I picked up my diet and it doesn't look too bad. It is NutriMed has anyone heard of that? I got to pick out the flavors I wanted. I know that there are not going to be the best tasting, but I can make it through this next two weeks. I least it is not just a liquid diet. There are entrees, cereal, cookies, shakes and puddings. I can have SF jello and popcicles, SF drinks of any kind. With the cereal I can have a 1/2 cup of skim milk. So I think this is doable. I can't believe that it is getting so close.
  11. Well, Friday I go get my diet from my doctor's office to start on Monday my two weeks liquid diet. Then Tuesday I have an EGD and Wednesday preop testing. Busy week next week, but one week closer to 10/18/10. I can't wait until I can finally sit on the loser's bench. I am so excited and nervous all at the same time. One problem I am having is my allergies are acting up and I have a cough and sore throat. I love this time of year, but my nose doesn't, so if you would, say a prayer that this doesn't get any worse and I don't have to postpone my surgery. I hope everyone has a great rest of the week and even better weekend. Lisa
  12. Thanks for all the support everybody gives. It really does help a person out on this journey.:scared0:
  13. I am having my surgery 10/18/10 with EGD on 10/5, preop testing on 10/6 and I start my preop diet on 10/4. I have to take their preop diet drinks. Heard they were not good, but I will give it a try. Well, I am officially getting a little nervous, but I am truely excited and ready to make this change not just for me, but my 5 year old son and my husband.
  14. Well I got a surprise today. I called the doctor's office yesterday and she said that the lady I need to talk to is off all week. :biggrin0: Then today the lady called me and I am approval for sleeve. They gave me a tentative date 10-18-2010. It could be earlier or it could be later, scheduling is supposed to call me. I can't wait. I am so happy!!!!!:lol0:
  15. Last week I cried too when I put my son on the bus for the first time. I have adjusted, but it was harder than I thought. You see your 5 year old get on the bus and ride away. Great song think I am going to download it to my collection. I haven't heard or seen that one before. Thanks for sharing.
  16. Congrats! Your in my thoughts and prayers!!!!
  17. Hey Branc1 - I work for the VA in Poplar Bluff, MO. I am supposed to be called in a couple of days to get a tentative surgery date. I can't wait. Good luck on your up in coming surgery.
  18. I have federal BCBS. I am going to have VSG, they told me that it would cover VSG. Also, my friend who is under her husband's plan had Federal BCBS and she underwent VSG. Talk to your insurance company, they will give you more answers.
  19. Well, I had my first appointment with my surgeon. I really like him a lot. I am glad I chose him now. Anyway, the manager went over what I would have to pay for the surgeons fees, which was $100 for surgeon, $100 assistant surgeon and probably another $100 for EGD ( don't know on that one yet these are copays). She said that she didn't have to send an necessity letter to the insurance, but had to precert because it is an inpatient surgery. It will be about a week or two before I will here anything else. I figured that much. Well, I guess I am getting even closer now. I am so ready for this. :scared0: :frown1:One bad note today was that the little weight that I lost 8 pounds, I have gained back all but 3 pounds. I feel like a complete failure about that, but I am going to try harder in the next week or two so that I can go back and lost them 8 pounds or even more.
  20. I don't know about everybody, but around my period 2 weeks to week before, I get these terrible intense cravings for salty and sweet. Of course, these cravings are so intense I usually give in. I was wondering, after you are sleeved, do you still have intense cravings around your period? I hoping that this will change when I am sleeved.
  21. Heavyweight here. I have about 160+ pounds here to lose. I was thinking the same thing Globetrotter when I started ready some post that they only need to lose about 75lbs and I thought you should be at least 100lbs overweight to have the surgery in the first place. Anyway, I was beginnging to feel like a giant (I guess I am width wise, a little height challenged here). Don't worry, I am here for the long hall and hopefully soon, there will come a day when I can say I only need to lose 75 lbs. Lisa
  22. You guys are great. You all made me just about cry at these words of encouragement.:crying: I am going forward with my plans. My husband is behind me and will support me and also the friends at my work are behind me and you all are behind me. I know that I can come to you all with any problems and you are going to help me think this through and so I can make the right decisions. Boy this is sure a rollar coaster of emotions. Thanks again for everything. You will all be blessed!
  23. I have done my research and checked insurance and have a surgeon consultation appt soon, but my 4 sisters (whom I am very close and have been all my life and especially when mom and dad passed away) think that I am doing a very wrong thing. I'm very excited about this, this is probably one of the best decisions I have made along with marrying my husband and having a child. Does anyones family's mind change after you have had surgery? I am just disappointed that they can not be as supportive about this as I would be for them in any decision they make and believe me they have made some decision that I personally wouldn't have done, but I support them. This has made me rethink about having surgery done. :blushing:
  24. I am really glad someone asked about this too. When I have my surgery and this happened to me and no one told me, I would think that something was seriously wrong. The other thing that has got me to thinking about is trying to quit drinking when I eat. This is a bad habit I am going to have to get used to so I better start now. Thanks again for helping me understand this. :confused1:
