In my case--I am a disable Veteran who has turned the tables. I can't tell everyone--but many of the disablities has been weight related. I was told time and time again--if you drop 45 to 90 pounds...You will not have that back ache or that sore and burning knee. I have since took the Doctors advise with my second Birthday--March 28th-2007. The surgery date. To think of my life--I am not a working Man, but I do as well as many others who work. I am such a blessed Man. But with me being retired--I do get that from a few ladies. "Where do you get your money? "Oh-a Man who is retired--you can't do that good". Many feel that with me being available a lot--I am lazy and not motivated. If you had of seen me maybe 6 months ago--Yes--I went through that phase. "Thank God for the Lap Band"...My movtivation has returned and I am a new Man. There are days--I have talk to myself now-cool it down...Don't do 6 miles--do a slow 4 to 5 miles. But--my goals are getting higher and tougher. I challenge these hills in my town. There is 3 that I have to ride--just to get out of my area. The car is a good way to get out of the hood. But on my bike--it's been hell. Today--May 29th--I challenged my Body--my legs and my heart--2 times within 2 hours. I went up all of the hills--then back home. I stopped--threw the football around with the neighborhood kids for maybe 40 miles. The fool in me said..."try the hills again"...Ten minutes later--I was up those same 45 degree hills once more. Am I tired now--no way. But when the eyes get heavy=I will not wake anymore until maybe 7:30 am...

A deal breaker with me would be--Someone who is not healthy thinking. Someone like my ex-wife who complained of me trying to exercise daily. Thinking I am stealing attention away from her. The Woman who drinks and has loads of male friends. I am a single Parent--so I guess I will gyrate towards another single Parent. No smokers or heavy drinkers. The shocker recently--a young lady-sort of attractive. But has noticable complany of pot heads. I had to tell her straight up. You have too much company in your place--plus the people you hang around. She had the nerve to say--she stopped smoking the weed...said--it was because of her new Job. How long will that last??

Has anyone taken up Bycyling?

That is what I was speaking of...My next bike will be duel suspension. I was the soft seat and all. The only think I want to hurt is my legs while riding. I don't want the booty to be hurting. That is somewhat why I want the duel suspension. Yiur son is complaining about you riding--My sons is complaing of riding too much. It's thought I ride too much by my soon to be 11 year old. My 8 year old loves it. Both are boys who are active. I think the 10 year old is breaking away--due to early puberty. Oh well--it's a shame a soon to be 50 year old is out-riding the kids.(at least right now)

I know that my blood pressure is stabilized just after 7 weeks (basically 49 days) I missed my BP medication because my scripts ran out. I finally got to the Doctor after being out for 6 days. My BP has not gotten higher--even without medication. The first Nurses Practioner thought I was using drugs. At least that is what I got from her actions. She says--"Oh you losing weight and your BP is down? But you have no medication? I said--I ride from 3 to 5 miles each day(now 4 to 6)--she just about pushed me out of the office. I saw she looked at me strangely. Didn't really read my chart. I had to come back for another appointment...I mentioned that to my Dr.--It's known a lot people--who is of the darker skin color use drugs for weight loss and loss of reality( she says)...Crack??? I am cracking up laughing at the fact--a Man like me with a little above average intelligence--would even do such a thing.

I am doing one smart thing besides eating less due to me being banded..I am addicted to "bike riding" and "walking". My next journey will be weight lifting. I have done it all before. But my start will be right around August 15th...It'll be best when the kids return to school. That way--There will not be a 2 hour limit set on me. I have to give them to the Gym daycare--so we have 2 hours and we are told to come get the kids...1 step, 1 day at a time...
:faint:

All I know is now--they have nicer seats for the bike. I know I can go on riding with this skinny seat. I even placed the Gel seat over the original seat but - It still hurts me in an area--well lets not mention is here. There is a wider seat I am looking to get in a couple of days. I will try that one out too. I hope that within another 3 to 6 months--I will move up to a better bike. My bike is a walmart $73 special. Twenty-One speed--made simply for the kids. But I do well at my 240 something frame. I see folks laughing and looking. It pushes me more and more. I love the fact I can where my suits from 6 years ago--and some of the new ones I brought--but they've stayed on a hanger in my closet. Now as of last weekend--May 20th--I was able to put on that suit. I am now hoping that that size 40 will need a belt. I never wear it if it's tight. I'll leave that up to you ladies. If it's comfortable--I'll wear. Just keep your schedule riding daily. Take your time off--like a day here and then ride 2 more days. Before you know it--that 2 or 3 miles will just be like dessert--tempting you. I can't ride for 30 minutes anymore. It'll just make me mad. I have get a short ride in at 45 minutes or branch out to that 2 hours--like I have been doing for the past 4 days. When I am tired--I will split that 2 hours into 2-- 1 hour rides...Call me crazy or call me motivated. I am sad to say--one of the people here have told me--I was going to be a "Couch Potatoe"--claimed I was doing too much talking...I am not riding today--because it's 87 degrees. Oh--the temp will go down to 75 again by 6:15 pm...then I'll be pumped up and having enough protien in my system to go for my 1.5 hour ride...I go longer when it hot..It's Memorial day--I am glad no one is celebrating my life--cause I am still here....LL

A thread for Single Bandsters
Hey there band fans....As I have made it to 60 days post op today. I have stayed away from the dating scene. It's strictly a personal choice of mine for now. I know that I have gotten a few flirts and looks as I have lost the 28 pounds--but I want to strictly stick to my goals and maintain my closeness to my 2 sons. I like the attention--but it seemed the past few relationships--it's been a real stress raiser. The worst was a Woman who complained of me going to the gym too much. Have you ever??? I went through some up and down weight issues in the past. Finally I said as on November 06- time to make a big change in me. So when I got to 3-28-07--I knew it was a start of something new. The newness of my goals, my concentration is great. I can now go for 7 to 10 days--without dropping the ball. I have the days now--I am tired--but I perk up shortly after 2 days rest. Dating--I am going to wait and feel when the time is right. I know that I am guaging my weight against the dating. I want to be right at 3/4 way before I think of that. That would be an 80 pound weight loss....I know--I am only 52 pounds away--but that is how I am feeling. I don't want nothing to stop me or distract me from where I want to be. Plus with age 50--25 days away--I have plenty of work to do. My goals are in tact and they are going make me ready for the blessed days ahead...LL

6 Small meals a day???
I use "Armour THyroid"--the natural medicine for the Thyroid...I have been doing well....You should try some broth--some yogurt--some salad---anything soft---try it

I need a kick in the butt

You have hit a wall of sorts...You should catch the program on the TLC channel.....See the really Obese People--450, 550, 700 and 800 pounds near Death. It scared me to death---I was so upset when I watched it....I woke up--rode my bike 5 miles in the AM and then 5 miles in the PM....Call me crazy??? Lately--this hill where I live is no longer scarey...My clothes are no longer tight---The ladies who never say nothing to guys like me--now talk to me. Some have even walked up--"Oh I am Stevies Mom--Or my name is Alice"...Funny thing--all I did was go through the lap band on 3-28-07---Lost only 28 pounds....I was 271 starting...I have not weighed myself in maybe 11 days--since my fill...Now--I am able to ride 4-5 and 8 miles on given days. It's getting to the point--I almost hate coming home after a ride. My energy is through the roof. Think of this....I had a low back fusion, neck fusion--1998...Left Knee replacement--03...another neck surgery for a pinched nerve--04.I even suffer from a torn left shoulder. All of this was done in the Army..all of this could have stopped me...I live in disability from the VA, Post office and SS....why should I work hard??? Right?? Because--I turn 50 on June 21st and I can't wait to look down at the scale and see--163 to 173 lbs.....I am predicting I will see that around Feb or March next year--maybe sooner....If I can work my butt off through out the summer--Don't let the surgery get you down....Think of if you had 7 surgeries like me...

My first fill--done May 16th-07
Good afternoon band fans...I got my fill on May 16th-2007. I was told to work with the fill for a week and see what I feel like. I got some mixed reactions on this. I wake up each day--to eat a 4 or 6 oz yogurt. Then I take any meds I need to take. I can no longer take medications on a empty stomach. I am finding the big pain--the hunger pain each morning. Then some foods now is not my thing. I have since thrown up 3 times. I am shocked. I mean--2 out of 3 times--I had no food in my stomach. Anyway--yesterday--I called--my Drs nurse. The office says she will redo my fill on June 13th. The reason--my Dr is on a maturnity leave. So I will have to wait. It's ok...I am still going to hit the track--the road for more cardio on my bike. Maybe--It's a touch and go...Lee

Has anyone taken up Bycyling?

I must say--if it's financially possible--get you a another Jell and put over that. I was hurting too with the gel at first. Finally in a the past couple of weeks--I am not in the big pain. If I make the gel a problem--I'll make my workout shorter with excuses.

Secondly--Great Job--go for the meeting on the bike. Two and 1/2 miles is our Walmart. So I have went there 2 times so far by bike--with my kids. So many people pushing me hard. One lady--cute as a button. Why are you getting so small? I said--it was time--then she remarks again--why? With her as a size 2 maybe...Then a few of my so called "Male Buddies". "Lee--you're Killing yourself--just to turn back the hands of time. With that statement--I was at the store about 1.5 miles from my home--I saw the very same guy--chipping in with his buddy for a 12 pack of beer. He then says--I want to lose weight--but that hill will kill you. I had to remark...if it will kill you...I have now 7 weeks of going up that same hill on the average of 4 days a week. So I should be dead--28 times over. The deal is--people who say the crazy things--I use this to fuel my workouts. I actually look for them to say the bigger things like that--if you can call it that..Do your thing and work harder and smarter...

Has anyone taken up Bycyling?
Come on now--lets dust that bike off....some oil and get busy... I have one major problem I am trying to fix...each time I got 5 to 7 miles 3 days in a row--I need about 2 days off. I am sore and I get wore down...Even though I am doing the suppliments and vitamins--it's been like that since April ....I hope I can increase my energy soon...

Has anyone taken up Bycyling?
Great deal....I like that ride...I have not gone nowhere near 14 miles--but 8>5 is what my speedomater recorded. I know that when I got done with that--I was spent for almost a whole day. I can't tell if I was totally wore out or is it my 50th birthday is around the corner... Either way--I'd love to go at least 6 to 8 miles per day. There would be no way that my weight would sit still. I am going to try my 4 to 5 tomorrow...It should prove to be a good distance. I hope I will not be asleep by noon..It doesn't matter--I am sure it'll keep the blood pressure down as well as give me so much relaxing feelings as I ride...

Has anyone taken up Bycyling?
Hellotoall...We can't worry about Looking fat on the bike. It's the People who see us who are walking and doing nothing--but laughing. But within 6 months---see if you can have that photographic memory--then look at them. I see the People who laughed at me. I see them now with their heads down. I saw a guy who is right at 355--my guess. Yet he can't walk without assistance and he is just 54 years old. I will be 50 on 6-21(coming soon). I take care of 2 small boys--my two sons. Yet now that joke has turned badly for him. As I recall the last conversation with him. He is complaining of painful knees, painful back, can't walk far. Each time I am seeing him at his Job--never on his feet. Always sitting....But that is just 1 example. Don't let no one put you down. Follow your heart and get "BUSY"....

Exercise accountabilty thread
My plan is to get all the cardio done now. Then by July 1st--add in the weight lifting....This way...12 weeks of cardio should have done well.....At least this is my plan. I am now starting to get that 3 to 5 miles in a day. Today (5/19/07)--a day that was over 8.5 miles....Oh Lord...am I tired...

Has anyone taken up Bycyling?
Hello there Band fans....I got banded March 28th-2007. I told myself....Bycyling would be a very good choice. Fresh air, muscles working for the sake of "Cardio". After one week passed--in April. I purchased three new bikes for me and my two sons. I have defeated many things doing that. No more not riding with my children--we ride as a crew (family). We could not conquer the hill on my street. We used to stop 3 to 4 times before getting to the top ( I did). So now the wheels have turned. My kids ask me---"Daddy can we stop--our legs are burning". Thank God I am doing well now. Now with 21 pounds gone---but just riding bikes. I am ready for the next Journey...The 1st fill--I am looking forward to the next 4 to 6 weeks--maybe 12 or 20 pounds gone...who knows...:faint: this is how I feel on many days after my ride. Today--(8.5 miles) It was walking, riding around the fair in my town--but that is what my speedometer said when it was all over...

My Skinny Dream
Oh yes...But I do ride my bike at least 4 to 5 days a week. I have to get me some rest. I am about ready for 5 to 6 days. Hills are no longer steep hills--they are just a challenge..>lee

My Skinny Dream
All I want to do is--be the size I was when I made 28....seems crazy---but I was a 32 waist and wore a size medium shirt. That would be averaging 170 to 185 pounds. If I was that size again...I'd hardly feel badly or complain. I am just 65 pounds away from the 185..I am 250 now--down from 271 as of March 28th--the day I got banded. I just got my first fill May 16th. It was the 1 cc fill. I am doing ok...But over the past 4 days--it's a touch and go thing. Eating veggies--I got full after 1/2 a bowl. I cut up chickenand put in some--I ate more it seems and didn't feel full too soon. I guess I will stick to my diet--eat veggies...soft baked chicken and fish. I am looking forward to another 20 pounds in 6 weeks. It can be done. I rode about 8.5 miles today on my bike. Was I tired--Oh God I was. But I spiked my protien drink with 3 Vitamin B complex tabs--crushed up...blended...LL

My Skinny Dream
How are thig going. Your picture could be seen and two sisters. The old you and the new you. I got banded on March 28th. So far I am 21 pounds down from 271. Yesterday (5/16/07) I got my first fill. I think it wasn't enough. I even asked my Dr--could she do 2-cc's. She said--all wanted to do was 1 cc of water in the ort for the first fill. Then says--I will not be back til June-6th. Means I have wait about 3 weeks before I can get a fill. My Dr is the only fill dr in her office of 12 docs....Strange?

A thread for Single Bandsters
Hey there...My reply is--you should have some fun and don't expect anything. That is not a sad thing. Many of the Men are expecting the goodies. Make the evening an evening of fun. Thank God you're having fun. Myself--with a simple 25 pounds goine since March 28th banding date. I have a few more looks--flirts. I told myself--the same ones who looked at me side ways when I was at 270--will be the same ones who I ignore. I am going to be soon a 50 yr old single dad of 2 boys. I may start my way back to the dating world. I have a goal--lose 40 more pounds by summers end. I am told that it's impossible. Then again...I was told that I would only achieve 2 pounds a week too---when I clicked off 5.2 per week. How I did it--walking on the treadmill 1 hours when the weather stopped me from riding my bike. Then some crazy workouts--2 times a day--3 days a week---then the next 3 days--single rides--at 3 to 5 miles a day....Love will be there...don't you worry..LL

Banded on Monday 4/30
Congrats....I was banded on March 28th....I lost 20 pounds by April 27th...Since then I have not gotten a weight. I have slowed a little...You can work hard if you want to. I have found out--it's more of a mind thing. I live in an area where there is about 3 hills to go up. I kept saying--"Oh my God--I will never make it"...I stopped about 6 times the first time...Then 5 times...Finally I am into my 5th week of riding. I can stop now twice each time going up. The big thing for me is when people laugh. I like that--it pushes me harder. I ride 3 to 5 miles a day. The reason I know--I put a speedometer on the bike--so I could not make distances up in my head and be honest with "myself".. Funny thing--A dog bit me 2 weeks ago on the same street while riding. Then I fell off the bike--hands first--due to me hitting the wrong brake..lol Guess what--I am doing this ride at least 4 days a week. I do other routes on the other 2 days. This week--I have taken 3 days off from riding. But last night--May-8th-07--I played tennis with my 2 sons...Last thing--I will turn 50 next month (6-21)--hey--I am doing great with my lap bading..

I live in North West Mississppi
YOu may find this hard to beleive--I just kicked 22 pounds to the curve....I have found a passion---riding my bike 3 to 5 miles 5 to 6 days a week...Then on the weekends--2 times a day with my kids.. Funny thing- each of the rides where I have rode over 2.5 miles--my 2 kids were with me...leading the way. They love it that I am going away from home...we travel the country roads...I can feel that my next weigh in--I will close to the 35 pounds lost zone...I am told...you may be losing too fast..But my diet is ok--following it- my proien drinks I have stopped hating them--so I am using the 75 grams each day--making my own...strawberries--mixed fruit--makes it taste good,,,If I was just unbanded---I have a feeling it would be horrible...even my kids drink protien drinks after a long ride everyday...

Married with children......
Hello....I guess it'shard for some...But as a single Parent--I just had the mind set to cook for my boys. Maybe as a Man--I was tougher. But in the first 30 days--21 pounds gone. I didn't exercise the 1st week due the pain. I started riding my bike--1/2 a block, 1 block and my farthest distance--5.7 miles on Friday(5/4/07)..I can't lie to you--I was sooo tired. I have not gotten weighed yet--my last weigh in was 4/27/07...I am now keeping track of the miles I do daily with my bikes speedomater. It's been amazing that I have 2 little guys--8 and 10 who guides and pushes me each day. My sons amaze me--I have now got them on Protien drinks along with me. I had a complaint--my son said his back and legs where hurting...I filled him up with 15 to 20 grams of protien--3 days straigt--2 times a day... Anyway--back to eating...Why can't you just cook for the family. Get one of the kids to be your taste tester. That is what I did to my kids. They tasted all of the foods and I am now. There has got to be something your husband can do to help. If you married a Man who is "One dimentional"--Oh well...What happens when you get sick--otherwise> So your family eats fast food?

Working hard after 18 days post op
Thank you so much. Today I had to take a day off. My kids are great to ride with. I am feeling my age each day. I got the best compliment a Man or Dad could get. I was riding 2 days ago--we got to the park where the young guys shoot ball...One kid said--"I wish my Dad would spend time with me like he does with his sons"...We ride out routes daily--I really don't think of it. Even ladies--teachers who live in the neighborhood have said--are you losing weight? All I have lost is 1o pounds--maybe more now. But I am not going to weigh myself each day. I want to do it each 14 days...I am proud I decided to incorperate my kids. My legs feel funny. They don't feel sore anymore--they feel hot and like blood is rushing through...Ok...thank you again...
