How long did your surgery take?

Surfing the web and seeing some you tube videos. I wondered exactly how long does the actual surgery take? Has anyone had any horrible complications, which took a little longer then normal? My surgery date is wednesday the 29th and all these last minute questions keep coming up. Sooo nervous and excited at the same time. Thanks guys!!

Seems like the actual procedure is 45 minutes to an hour and a half. I am having a hernia repair (hole in diaphragm bigger than just for the esophagus...bad heartburn) at the same time but I doubt that adds more than ten minutes. The only big complication I ever heard of was some liver disease discovered so they were closed up without band. If you are really curious I would type in complications in the search box and see what you get. Oh, and I have heard of two people having their band taken out because of taking pills (one whole, the other was large chunks) and then so much choking and vomitting that they slipped their band. I plan to dissolve or chew any tablet for the rest of my life but also my doc sews a little piece of your stomach over the band and back to itsself and he says his have NEVER slipped! Good luck...Cali

My procedure took 45 minutes that is including the hernia repair. I was so nervous the morning of the operation....I could barely sleep at all the night before. Needless to say everything went GREAT and has been great since. I had the operation on 3/5/09. GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!!!

Hi there! Congradulations on your surgery being just around the corner! I just got banded yesterday. I went into surgery at 8am and at 9am my husband was calling family to let them know everything went fine. I am real sore still but not so bad that I can't function. If I were to give you any advice before you have this done, is not to go onto these websites and look at all the complication websites and blogs. The complications that can happen are very rare, although they do happen. Right now you need all the positive feedback you can get, and there are plenty of success stories out there. Stick to those! You will do great!
