2009: New Year - New Body

Happy birthday to me, happy birthday, happy birthday, happy birthday to me!

Three weeks from today I'll be banded.

I'll be on the liquid fast during the Easter holiday.

I went to Golden Corral last night. It wasn't my idea. Family wanted to go. All you can eat buffets and super sizing; it's no wonder we are a nation of obese children and adults, and that heart diseae is one of the top three causes of early death.

So, how does one succeed in this weight loss journey, even with a lap band? I guess that's my biggest concern in an environment of all the food you can eat.

So much socialization revolves around FOOD; having friends and family over for meals; going out for lunch/dinner with friends. I guess that's where the support group comes in.

I'm still filled with mixed feelings, questions, concerns, doubts and hopes.

I'd appreciate any support and insights that the experienced banders can offer!

vayiayia this is an incredible journey. Once you set your mind that this is really right for you, it doesn't seem that hard to give up the "junk" and eat healthy. At least for me it didn't. I was ready. I set my mind to it and that was it. Took me 3 years to get to this point, and I knew I was ready. I did the pre-op diet and didn't sway so then I really knew I was ready. It is amazing that I don't miss a lot of things. The thing I miss the most? A slice of bread with chunky peanut butter. Yep, not the soda, or the coffee or even the fast food. It is that one thing. So for everyone it is different, and you have to just be ready to live differently. Support really helps as well. Good luck, djzlady96

You are right. Even after 5 months of banding when I get together with friends the question is usually "Do you want to do lunch?"

We find ourselves congregrating in the kitchen when we are at the house. It is a different mindset to get into. When you get to the right restiction it is easier to say no. I still go out with friends. I eat healthy and then I am not hungry and do not want to snack.

It gets easier when you learn the difference between real hunger and head hunger. Start working on that now. When you start to look for food ask yourself, "Am I hungry? Is my stomach empty?" If you start to learn your hungers you will get the results you want even faster.

It is a change, but you can do it!
