2 days after surgery

well its been 2 days since my surgery and its a lot more painfull and serious than I had expected.. Im in a bit of a panic at what i have just done to myself. Did I really think this over as well as I could have? I havnt started pooping yet but I feel like I might be able to tomorrow.. There have been moments of slight panic attacks of super hot flashes and I have to convince myslelf that I can still breathe. Sleeping on my side has helped me relax. But Im still taking several pain killers every several hours. I suppose that this is normal. I plan on taking a xanax tonight to help me sleep. Ive had very strange dreams while trying to rest.

I just want to share with you that I have had the same exact experience as you say here in your blog for the last 3 days since I got my lapband (on Monday Dec. 22). I was starting to wonder if I was the only one, but I have had some serious dizzy spells, hot flashes when I get up, and very painful gas pains in my shoulders and stomach. To be completely honest, I did not at all think I would be in so much pain pos-surgery like I have been in. Today (Day 3) is the first day I can get up and walk down the hall without feeling like someone was stabbing me in the stomach or that I had just ran up 20 flights of stairs. I completely empathize with you and am glad to know that I am not the only one . I as well have not used the bathroom (no. 2) in 5 days... but I guess its because all I have eaten is Jello or sugarfree pudding... not much to pass. Hope you start feeling better and get some rest. Keep in touch.

Merry Christmas,

LAP-BAND Patients

Hi Lauren wow thanks so much for your response.. I didnt think i would hear from anyone. Today is much better than yesterday was. I still havnt pooped but as you am not too worried about it. How much could I possible have to go with jello and water and whey protein? The gas pains I was experiencing are definatly better today. I have been taking a xanax crushed up with a single pain killer to help me sleep.. I havnt taken any pain killers since before two oclock today and its now almost nine pm. Ill tell you what though I absolutly culdnt possibly sip chicken broth tonight. I absolutly loathe broth. tonight i pureed a can of low fat chicken noodle soup.( is this considered self advancimg my diet?) I can cough now to clear my throat and definatly have more mobility. Your note to me has given me hope that I am not crazy for doing this surgery. Thanks for the support

Merry Christmas to you too.

Cary,

Its too funny because I loathe chicken broth with a passion and nearly gagged on it earlier today while I watched the rest of my family eat Christmas dinner (mash potatoes with gravy and prime ribs) ah!! What a day! When I woke up this morning the gas pains in my shoulders had finally gone away (thank God) because I thought I was going to lose my mind if I had them for another day. The gas pains in my shoulders have been much worse than the pain/soreness of my stomach/scars from surgery. How bout you? Don't worry though because your not alone in this;so far I have lost about 8 lbs. since Monday ( I guess because I'm on pure liquids and my body is in shock). I have only used the bathroom once (poopoo) since surgery (which I guess is ok since we are on liquids) but I hope that my body goes back to normal eventually. Anyways, Glad to hear from you and Merry Christmas. Keep in touch and good luck to you .

All the best,

Lauren

Ive never been so happy to poop before. It finally happened today. I also shaved and showered and made myself at least look good sitting around the house. Im bored out of my mind. I took the initial bandages off my incisions today to really get a good look at what had been done to me. Not so bad. I still have moderate pain on my right side incision but the others seem to be getting better. I had a spoonfull of peanutbutter today and a yogurt. I just made a fresh batch of jello and am about to heat up the remaining can of soup I purrered yesterday. I added unjury to the soup and so far so good. I dont know how much weight i have lost yet as my weight is still to high to read on the scale i have here at home. Im not gonna worry about it though. Im eating barely enough for a baby to survive. Im trying to make sure I stay hydrated and gettiiiing the protein I need to heal properly. I definatly feel more optimistic today that yesterday. I never thought id be so happy to consume Jello. Funny the things that change in life. I am definatly looking foreward to getting back to whole foods. I was cooking and eating really well before the surgery with lovely salads and grilled chicken. it will be nice to get back to all that. Ive decided I miss bread. Hang in there Lauren and Ill do the same.

Fondly,

Cary

Hang in there Cary. You can do this! I had to respond to your post. This is the only place I know where you can talk about how exciting it is to poop, and people share your excitement. I'm 4 days post op, and I got to poop yesterday! While other people got clothes and jewelry for Christmas I got...POOP! I also wanted to tell you to try and find something to keep your mind off food, especially while your still on liquids. I paint and write. Everytime I start to think about food I work on a painting or I write. Lately; I've been very prodcutive. Best of luck and congrats on doing something wonderful for yourself.
