Who am I?

blogs/blog-0113290001359437503.jpgGreetings, my name Jon. I live in Lenexa, Kansas. I am a 35-year-old Hispanic male with type II diabetes possibly on the verge of being type I. I've been overweight for nearly 30 years of life. I have been at the lowest at 170 pounds and at my heaviest at 280 pounds. I love food, I eat when I'm bored and I eat my emotions. Last month after the holidays I made the decision that I was going to explore the option of doing a weight loss procedure. After countless days/ hours surfing the Internet watching YouTube testimony videos I made the decision to pursue the vertical sleeve option. Two weeks ago I had my first meet and greet session with the surgeon I selected Dr. G. Brice Hamilton, M.D. He made a very strong first impression of course I wasn't prepared to ask questions. I will be ready for my 2nd consultation this is for certain. I'm scared of the unknown. I do not have a friend who was walked down this path. The few people that I've shared with seem to be supportive but deep into their eyes i can tell they do not understand. There is so much to read and I know that it is my responsory ability. If there are any local or national people who see/read this post please say, hi.

Gastric Sleeve Patients

Not local, but hi! and Welcome!! This forum can be a huge source of information and support..... It has been a safe place to ask questions and to vent... I am still pre-op, scheduled for 2/13 and cannot believe the support I have received here! Several of us also use MyFitnessPal and have friended each other there... Just kinda of a nice push to receive little messages during your day encouraging you to keep up the good work!

Best of luck to you as you begin this journey!!

Gastric Sleeve Patients

Hey Jon - VSG is the single best decision I have made in my life! I am down 41 lbs since my first consult with my surgeon in November 2012. I was sleeved on January 3rd and have said goodbye to 25 lbs in less than a month. Each day I feel better and better. You've come to the right place for information and support. Welcome!

LAP-BAND Patients

Hi Jon. Good luck with your journey. I also talked to a lot of family, friends, coworkers that were supportive but deep down I don't know if they really understood this decision of mine. I did a lot of research, watch the surgery on youtube. As i went thru the process that my insurance and the weight loss program expected, I learned alot and was focused on getting approved. I was sleeved a little over two weeks ago. I feel good and still amazed that i eat because i need to eat. I loved food and was an emotional eater or a bored eater. I don't have that urge to eat everything now...I know I am still early out but it is amazing to look in the mirror and see the difference already. i am shooting for a healthier future...good luck!
