Newbie

I'm new to the board and I am having my first phone consult w/the surgeon next week, and I'm pretty nervous, because my open enrollment is Nov.2nd and my ins. excludes the surgery and I havent even sent in the paperwork for the appeal process yet. They told me not to send anything yet until I do my phone consult to make sure I get all of my letters in from my docs and get all the right info in so the ins. co wont have an excuse to find to refuse me. I just hope it wont be too late and do all this for nothing. I do want the ds but I keep going to the sleeve, but I'm afraid if I get the sleeve I wont lose all my weight, cosidering I have 170lbs to loose. But my surgeon seems pretty knowledgable so I'm trying to be patient. Im trying to get my draft written up so when I read it to him it will be alright. Anyway is that the way its supposed to happen or am I just getting ahead of myself or what? Any suggestions or comments is welcome. Thank you:confused1:

I just wanted to say good luck! I can't really help with insurance because I was self pay. You may want to post on the finance and insurance forum if you haven't already done so.

As for the surgery type, I've read of people who have lost what you need to lose and from my understanding the sleeve is the first part of the DS procedure so maybe you could revise to the DS later if you aren't completely successful with the sleeve?

Again good luck!

Thanks for posting, thats what I'm afraid of if I want the ds I rather do it now than have to go through all of this again since they already dont want to pay for surgery. I think I should go ahead and go for the ds. I think I will have more answers once I talk to my surgeon next week. Thanks again

Yeah, you know yourself best. And if you trust your surgeon, I'm sure he'll/she'll be able to help guide you. You may want to check out the DS group on obesityhelp.com if you haven't already done so. The choice of wls is such a personal one and many factors have to be considered. I think all of them work for certain individuals and feel so blessed that we live in a time where there are so many options.

Again, good luck! Let me know how you're feeling after your consult.
