Must Defeat Grazing. Suggestions...?

Hopeful to be full

Background: I ate "dinner" at 6 o clock (fish and yogurt). went to church. now i'm up to bat again at the plate-the dinner plate hahaha! not good. and now that it's night and i'm feeling blue i eat another even bigger dinner.

I grew up as a grazer. I would eat a little here. Go Play. eat a little there. do my homework. eat some more. And it was all okay. I was a tiny kid/young adult that was healthy and hopeful. As I have gotten older this mode of eating has been slowly waging a war against my waistline. A little bit here and there has turned into a big problem.

I guess now the major differance now is that my grazing portions have really increased...eat a lot here. eat a lot there. eat....eat....eat...

Now for me grazing provides an opportunity to avoid responsibility for my food and my life. Grazing whenever I feel sad or upset helps me to avoid the problems in my life. Grazing also allows me to trump the food journal system. If I can't remember (or choose not to remember) what i ate because it was a bite here and there, then I can't write it down and feel bad about it. Food journalling makes me feel depressed. So I figure if I'm eating in weird patterns and ways I can somehow avoid the pain of accountability. I really don't know what else to say, other than I need help. Are there any other hardcore grazers out there? how did u face up to what you were actually eating. what rules or strategies did you use?

I am a grazer as well ... I try to avoid the kitchen as much as possible these days. I have stopped buying my trigger foods like chips and pretzels. If the urge hits me now I will drink a little flavored water (crytal light) over ice or grab a sugar free popcycle. It helps, it isn't fool proof but it does help. Good luck to you and remember to listen to your body. Take a few sips of water and decide if you are hungry or just bored and go for a little walk or start a new hobby.

I am a struggling grazer as well. I find that if I stay away from food I'll be okay. I have no snack foods at home except for soy nuts which I'll have every once and a while.

I now think things through before I eat without having to. Do I REALLY need to eat that? Why am I eating this? What am I feeling? Stressed? Mad? Sad? I usually eat when I'm stressed, and trust me I've slipped, but I just have to learn to not have crap food at home.

Also drink tons of water, it helps.

that now and then in between meals I'll grab a ritz cracker and it will hold me, till my next meal (no fills yet) and he said that was fine, don't go all crazy and start denying all your urges. Life's supposed to be enjoyed. And yes contiue to drink liquids, I go and grab all kinds for during the week so I have a variety! Sobee has some good ones.

I think I lot of us are grazers if we are honest with our selves. Eating from the pots while cooking,(that doesn't count because it's not on the plate or a hand full of chips or cookies. And also if no ones sees you eat it, it doesn't count ,RIGHT! I sometimes find hardest part of the day is evening time. I do right everything down as I eat it all day long, I have an app on my phone so I can record if not at home with my computer and if I can't log on to my app I write it on a post it note. This may seem obsessive but we have to hold ourseveles accountable and that is hard. I have planned snacks during the day that I include in my daily food intake, they are always protein snacks. I do notice if my band is working right, I don't think about grazing as much it is when my band needs adjusted that I seem to have more issues with grazing. Remember, we are trying to change life long bad behavior with food and it is not going to happen over night. Write it down, no matter how small. Those bites add up. Good Luck!

NITE grazer- I am not hungry till after dinner. and matters not what I eat -the munchies come on like if I was smoking pot. SO there is nothing in the house except some raisin bran cereal- which I will do 1/2 a cup now. I did have some carrots and some wholewheat oven baked crakers,,, but have tried NOT to buy anymore. Living at the gym more has helped. Now i come home beat and do not wnat to even move from the couch to get a craker. I think changing the routine is what is helping me. Good luck!
