Hello All, in 8 days I will be banded by Dr. Kurian (NYC). I'm soooo nervous and excited at the same time. I'm so afraid and pray so hard that I don't regret this. I am 5 feet 3 inches tall and my starting weight is 270 lbs. I've been on liquids now for 6 days and so far lost 8 lbs. Wow! I'm excited about the weight loss but still very afraid of the future with the band.

I'm feeling the same way...I'm still in the process of finding the right Doctor. I'm scared after reading blogs about throwing up & some can't eat normal food - Being stuck on pureed or even worse liquid for a loooong time worries me. Also, what if it doesn't work and I don't lose weight??? I'm in Canada and we pay $16,000.00 nothing is covered...

Hi, don't worry, it works, I am like you started out at 270, and I am 5 ft 4 in. Lost 50 since Jan 2010. This surgery is great and it works, plus one thing to remember is it's long term meaning that you will loose but not all in one month. I average 5.6 #s loss a month. No problem eating just eat smaller portions--stick to the lap band diet. You should not get stuck on liquids or musshies. Only solids get stuck if you do not chew, chew, chew. I have had a few experiences--I tested the limits of my band--yes there are limits and you will know--it will come back up. When something gets stuck it does hurt for a while-10 to 30 min. YOU WILL LOOSE WEIGHT. Oh the procedure for lapband surgery in Korea costs, about 7, 000.00 dollars or a little less. People for Canada come to Korea for this surgery too. Pass the word, take a vacation to South Korea and have the surgery, spend a few weeks in the Land of the Morning Calm. Read my blogs and you will see what the benefits are of the surgery. There are many others on this site who are doing well. Some loose more #s than others during the journey, just be PATIENT AND ENJOY THE RIDE.

Thank you Hopee and Giby for your comments. I live in New York and I am lucky to say that my Heath Insurance will be covering the cost. I am very scared if staying on liquids and mushies but I will give it my best to succeed. Thanks again for your comments. Best wishes
