Just some thoughts...

I called a LAP-BAND® doctor here that takes out of town patients and he has some BIG restrictions for post-op rules! Not like my doc. My surgery was June 14th and I had my first fill on July 19th. His requirement is no first fill for 8 weeks after surgery, so a second fill can't be for at least 90 days after the surgery date. That means the earliest I could get in would be the day before I'm supposed to go on vacation to Florida! They went on to say there is no way I could fly with any liquid in my band. I've never heard THAT before! In fact, my doc in Chicago said I could fly 24 hours after a fill. Who to believe...I think I'll believe the doctor that I KNOW and TRUST already.

So, I called another place up here in the Minneapolis area. It's actually a bit closer to me anyway. They require a meeting with a dietician to assess where I am at this point, but I could get in this week! I scheduled an appointment for next Monday afternoon. We'll see what they say, but I already like how much more helpful they were than the other place.

I would really hate to have to drive 6 or 7 hours back to Chicago for a fill at the end of the month, but I can not wait until OCTOBER for a second fill! Sheesh! I want to start losing more weight, for cryin' out loud.

I've only lost about 5 pounds since my fill. (Right, "only" can be excluded, I know. At least the pounds are going DOWN, not up.) But I also haven't been able to work out at a gym with the move going on. I plan on joining the gym in the next week or so. Waiting for payday!

So, loving Minnesota so far! Not looking forward to winter, but I'm prepared as much as I can be for it! Haha!

How is everyone else doing out there??

I am glad you found a location, afer reading about the first Dr. I almost lost my mind on the computer screen....talking to myself saying are they for real, no way they can't be. Maybe they are still brand new to the lap band all together.

I've heard about doctors that delay fills, but I haven't heard the no fly rule. That's nuts. People do it all the time. There are flight attendants with the band for crying out loud. :)

Are you using fill centers USA in MN? I have been calling them, trying to find out about using them after my surgery. I live in Manitoba, Canada and will have to drive about 7 hours to the fill center in MN.

Hi, people fly all the time, everywhere, especially from South Korea to their homes after they have their surgeries, yep. Oh I was getting my Fill,s at every two weeks after my surgery. I intentionally hesitated for my fourth fill, which I had on 7 Aug purposely to see if I can do it myself, you know self determination. I am scheduled for a trip to the states in Sep and my doc recommended a fill prior to going, so I did that. I have 7 cc in a 10 cc band. Once I return I will get another in Oct and press my schedule to loose my #s by my anniversary date which is 4 Jan 11. Since my 3rd fill to my 4th I had not worked out at all, just in the garden one to two hours occasionally. Now of course I will pick up my exercise routine. I have a stationary bike inside my home, You may want to purchase an inexpensive one and exercise in your home 30 minutes, three or four times a week or more if you desire. You really feel good too. Schedule your vacation and go and have fun. Rem you are in control now of your life, everything you do is for you so think positive. Rem we adjust our schedules everyday, so enjoy life now. Look at all the bandsters who have already flown, especially those who come the South Korea for their surgery and return to places like Canada the same week. HAVE FUN OK.

no flying?!! i understand they dont want you to get on a plane 2 hous after a fill in caseyou are overfilled....but NEVER... yeah righ!

My DR in Boston is really conservative. i have to wait 2 months between fills...maybe that explains why i have (only) lost 42 lbs in11 months

I moved from Miami to Boston and my1st winter i was not prepared for it!! i am now a big believer in HATS to stay warm.

good luck

i've never heard the "no fly" rule? I told the Doc that I would be flying after my fill and all he said was "have a nice trip"....

my doc is also very strict w/a lot of rules after each fill....clear liquids/3days, liquids/1 week, mushies, 1 week, etc... so it takes like 4 weeks after each fill to return to "normal" eating...My doc has a lot of "do not eat" on my list...but the Doc you found doesnt sound reasonable. It almost sounds like maybe he/she doesnt really know a lot about banding....? (just my thoughts - dont mean to upset anyone out there....)

Since thousands of working people have the lap-band, all industry would stop if they couldn't fly after they have fluid in their band. Perhaps the person you spoke with didn't understand what you were saying? That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard of. I am so glad you have found another doctor.

I am so glad you are enjoying your new home in Minnesota. I wish you the best of luck and enjoy your vacation down here in sunny Florida. It is so hot right now, in the 90s every day with a heat index of over 100. I can't wait until winter!
