Not Enough Calories?

Hey, all of you helpful bandsters . . a little advice please? I was banded 7/15/10 . . so I'm in my third week and just went to solid foods. I have been concentrating on getting in my 60 gm of protein, so have not looked at calories - until today. I added up the calories I'm consuming and it's only around 500 - yikes! The plan from my dietician says over the next 2 weeks, I am to try and cut out in-between snacks and have just the 3 meals/day. How do I increase calories while maintaining the 60 gm. of protein? And bear in mind please that I am NOT a fish eater .. . I can tolerate tuna, but that's about it. Thanks for your help . . . the dietician at the doctor's office is not available until Wednesday.

Have you tried protein shakes?

Turkey and chicken are good sources of protein as well. I like slices of deli turkey or chicken around string cheese or even a low fat sesame stick. My little snack in the afternoon is 1/4 can of the chicken breast, chopped up really fine with some cilantro and onion and a smidge of miracle whip, using carrot sticks or sesame sticks as dip. You get a lot of protein, a little veggy or carb, and it holds you over for a long time!

The other ideas are protein shots or greek yogurt.

Good luck!

Thanks suthrn and sandy, good suggestions. I do use the protein shakes . . .maybe I just don't understand the plan from my doc's office, as I said, they want 3 meals/day - no snacks (ideally) . ..but only 1/4 c protein, 1/4 c veg/1/4 c starch or fruit at each meal. ..I'm just having a really hard time consuming enough calories . .. and I'm still supplementing with a 23g Nectar (protein powder) in the afternoon to get enough protein in . .but at only 500 calories, that's just not enough. We have a support group meeting Wed. night and I'll get clarification . .anywho, I really like the idea of deli turkey around string cheese . .mmm I'll definitely try that! Thank you both sooo much!

I really dislike protein shakes, but after my first fill which may or may not be on Aug 19th, I will have to go back to liquids for a week.

My normal breakfast is the equivalent of 2 egg whites and 1 whole egg scrambled with a large pinch of shredded Mozzarella cheese fried in a little Smart Balance spread. Lunch is usually a can of tuna or chicken mixed with lite Mayo or 4 oz of meat or fish with some steamed brocolli or a cheese stick and for dessert a Jello cup. Dinner is pretty much the same as lunch. I have a sugar free ice pop while watching TV at night. Lots of fluids all day. I feel great and have been losing steadily. Talk to your group, I am sure they will give you plenty of ideas. Good luck.
