3 Days Post Op

I am a little worried. I recognize this is a new experience and that I'm learning to listen to my body in a different way than I ever have before.

Yesterday I was sore, more sore than I was the first day - today less sore; except of course, from my port incision. It looks good but still really swollen. The thing I'm worried about is yesterday despite the recommendations that I eat 2 tablespoons of liquid food (runny cream of wheat, creamed soup, etc) five times a day I couldn't. By the end of the evening, my ribs felt like they had been beaten with a two by four and by 10:30 at night I felt like maybe I was stuck - although on what I still can't figure it out. And in truth, I don't really know what stuck feels like. My stomach gurgles and gurgles and gurgles, so much so that it woke up my beloved. I feel like when I drink even an ounce of water it's backed up and then it gurgles more.

Does anyone have any insight into this? I've gone super slow this morning and am trying warm herbal tea now but nothing seems to alleviate this. Am I blocked? Is it gas? I'm walking but nothing seems to shift this.

Patiently trying to figure it all out but not going to eat even liquid food until I know it is okay . . . nervous Nelly! ;)

LAP-BAND Patients

Are you taking any antacids? My Dr had me on prilosec for the first 30 days post op, and it was a godsend.

I was miserable the 1st day post op from all the gas, but after that I was fine, and I believe the prilosec was the reason. I was also just on my protein drinks (isopure plus zero carb) for the 1st 10 days post op. Was able to also have SF Jello and SF ice pops, and Broth. I was not permitted to have cream of wheat or creamy soup till day 10. Maybe that is not agreeing with your band??

Good Luck, it will pass...

LAP-BAND Patients

I'm on day 6 after banding and don't get to have cream of wheat until after day 8 . . every doctor has different requirements it seems. If the solids aren't working, I would stick with liquid, but you have to keep something going in, in my opinion. And I had that sore in the ribs feeling too . .. it's better today. And I saw my docotor today and he said I'm healing just fine. My port area is still swollen and still very, very tender and he said that is to be expected . . hope this helps.

LAP-BAND Patients

I am on Day 5 - banded at 11:30 a.m on 7/16/10. My doctor told me that day 2 and day 3 would be the roughest - and he was rigth. I felt better -when gas started passing on day 3, and whenI stopped the pain meds on day 4. Loud gurgling is normal I have been told - hang in there each day has been better.
