Support Issues

Well, it's been a month. I've had my first fill. But no nutrition support. My Drs. office lost their nutritionist when they switched her to part time (to save money). She needed full time so she had to leave. They have one that is on maternity leave but she is only doing phone consultations. I thought I paid for 6 months of unlimited nutritionist support. The office did say I could call and talk to the Dr. (really? a surgeon will take that kind of time?) But I'm really disappointed and a little confused. Any ideas out there? How did you learn what to eat? Not sure if I'm eating all the things I should be. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Bummer! Do you have any local support groups you can attend? I absolutely love the Lap Band Talk but I also have a local group that meets once a month and there is a nutritionist that runs the meeting. I personally look at it as a lifestyle change and look at what I am eating..strive for 60-70 grams of protein per day, 64 ounces of fluids per day. I don't eat out a whole lot so I do most of my own cooking so I know what I am eating. I average about 1000 cal a day. I have been at my sweet spot for a while now..I eat about 3/4 to a cup of food at each meal. I don't care for breakfast foods and never have so I always have a protein shake for breakfast. I am not sure if any of this helps or not..if you have any specific questions I would be happy to help!

Does your doctor offer support group meetings? If so, you should go. If not and you have health insurance, they will probably pay for you to visit a nutritionist. There are great tips on line. Since you have had a fill, you probably get full after 3 or 4 ounces of food. Make sure you chew really well and drink your water. Low fat, high protein is the way to go. Avoid starch, if at all possible. Exercise is very important, as well.

If your doctor cannot help you, you need another doctor. Have you talked to your primary?
