So WEAK! No Energy! Help

Hi,

I was banded on Wednesday 6/16. I am feeling so weak. No Energy at all. I understand it has only been 4 days, but will this go away? I have read so many posts saying they have so much more energy, so I do not know why I feel so weak.

I have been taking my mulitvitiamin, and Calcium. I have been drinking my protein shakes to try to keep my energy up. I walk at least every 30 minutes and it takes all my energy to do so.

I have very little pain now. All of the pain in my shoulders and throat have dissipated. My only complaint so far is that I have not been able to have a bowel movement since Tuesday 6/15. I hope this goes away soon.

I can deal with alot, but not feeling weak. I can't stand that. I have to go back to work tomorrow and do not want to feel this way.

Am I not taking everything I should? Is there anyone that had this same issue that can give me advice? Please.

Thanks,

:smile2:

People who experience this, usually move to mushies and feel better almost instantly. (I moved to them on day 3, everyone varies, but listen to your doctor.) something like cream of wheat, etc... might make you feel alot better.

Also how much protein are you getting in your protein drinks? It may help to double up. I expected this so I loaded up on redmeat before my surgery to get through the inital days but again, I ate mushies on day 3. It was only 3 tablespoons of food but I did instantly feel better.

I had that weak feeling too. I added some sugar free jello, popsicles, and even some chicken broth at about 5 days (on my doctor's plan for that time), and I started to feel better. After I went on mushies (10 days out) I was better than my old self :-)

Also, are your vitamins liquid or do you crush them? I found my crushed pills work better if I don't drink any water for about 30 mins afterwards (except for the sip to get them down). Seems to help absorption?

If you have to go back to work tomorrow, plan on it being a light day -- not a lot of running around -- if at all possible. Pack some of the clear snacks (above) and get lots of fluids.

Good luck!

P.S. It does pass althogether. I have WAY more energy now (3 weeks post-op) than I've had for 5 years at least!

You'll feel a lot better when you're back on food...I felt like I was going to pass out until then I was so weak. Call your Doc and ask if you can take a laxative; this helped me a lot!

This does pass, sounds like to me you are not geting enough protein drinks in you.. I to think you should double up on your shakes. Try this protein shake, it has 35 grams of protien for 1 shake " Pure Protein". Or even make your own with fruits, 1% milk and then blend also add some protein powerd to it, this should give you lost of protein. Lack of protein will make you very WEAK!

Soon your engergy will return.. Please keep us posted.

Yes, a laxative is the way to go, pardon the pun! Ha! Seriously though, it will HURT if you don't take a laxative. MiraLAX powder mixed with something has zero flavor. I suggest that. Also, try to eat some pureed tuna...this was suggested to me and really helped with the energy level.

I saw my doctor today for my 1 week post-op and he thinks I am not getting enough fluid. So I am now drinking 80 fluid oz. I do feel some what better.

I also am able to eat mushies :) YEAH. I think that will give me more energy.

I did use the a laxative and feel so much better, but I do for see having to add some sort of fiber to my diet so I can be more regular. I hate laxatives. I read on this site that there are metamucil wafers that they eat everyday. So I will add that when I can eat food.

This was my one weak post-op and I lost 9 lbs. I know that will slow down alot, but I was really happy. So maybe I have been weak from lack of food.

Now that I can start mushies, I hope to feel better. I will keep everyone posted.

Thanks for all of the advice and support.
