Thank you all for all your honest sharing.

I have not yet been banded, but have had my initial consult with the surgeon. I want to diet now but don't know if that is smart to do at this point since I have not yet gotten approval from the insurance company. I am at about 260 now and can get down to about 230 but never below. At 5'4 inches will that be a number that is high enough to get banded. Any input about this would be appreciated. Thank you.

You can start eating healthy now :cursing: It won't hurt anything. It sounds like your BMI would be high enough for a band. You can find out by using the calculator here:

Body Mass Index Calculator

I think most insurances and surgeons require a BMI of 40 or twice your ideal weight.

Hi. You can go to obesityhelp.com and calculate your BMI. I entered 230 at 5'4" and your BMI was 39.4. At 260 your BMI was 44.6. Yeah, most insurance companies require at least 40. Hope this helps. Jen
