I'm Banded!

I had my lap band done yesterday at 7:30 AM and was home by noon. Everything went smoothly I think. I still kind of feel like it isn't true.

I feel weak - was only able to drink tea and water yesterday so I really haven't had any calories in over 36 hours. Any thoughts on how to start? Last night I still had some nausea and the bloating and left shoulder pain was pretty bad. I took Lortab Elixir and a Phenergan and slept well. I really feel pretty good this morning. Did anyone feel a little sad after it was done? I feel like that now - maybe just a let down from all of the planning and anticipation I guess. My daughter and my husband have been great and I hope to spend some time this afternoon on this site.

Have a great day, all.

Congratulations! I was recently banded myself. I don't remember feeling sad, I just felt relieved that it was finally over with and I came out alive!

You're going to feel weak for a few days, it's expected specially since you are taking your pain meds. You'll gain your strength in a few days but you should try to walk as much as you can, I'm sure your doc told you how important that is. Also, you should do deep breaths.

Another thing that I'm still having issues with is my port incision - it still aches but not as much as last week. Anyway, make sure you have a pillow handy all the time to place over your stomach when coughing or sneezing. It will hurt less.

Yes, I felt sad. I am only 7 days post op, and for the first 4-5 days i cried everyday. It is becasue we have lost a best friend, food! Usually after we have done something important in our lives, food was there to comfort us and then reward us. This time food does not reward you for making a major life changing decision. I still feel sad, but these next two weeks will hopefully fly by, and then i can begin the game of what can or cant i eat.

CONGRATULATIONS Bander!!! Try your best to get some calories in or the weakness will get worse...don't worry if it's a higher calorie liquid...if it sounds good and you can get it down, then drink it! Around 800 calories your body will go into starvation mode anyway. It's all about keeping hydrated and not too weak at this point! Best Wishes! -BG
