Hello,
I have been considering weight loss surgery for three years (since my diagnosis of diabetes) and finally made the appointment and had my surgery January 21, 2015. I weighed in at 240 on New Years Day and called and made my appointment that week.

During this three year decision making process, I took training to be a health coach.  Took all of the training to heart and still didn't lose a pound. My diabetes came into control, which was wonderful, and for two years I have not been considered diabetic any longer. The most successful diet which conformed to what I was learning was the Fast Metabolism Diet, I lost 30 pounds and kept it off for almost a year.  I tried in November to do another 28 days and not only did I not lose any this time, but I gained all I had lost and more by January.  I have never been so discouraged.  Who is going to listen to a 240 pound health coach and not only that but what if all that I had learned was just so much touchy feely gobbledy gook! I turned 60 on the 28th of December and found out at Christmas that our first grandchild was on the way. I'd really like to spend the rest of my days in good health and hopefully a normal weight; Without the sleep apnea, varicose vein issues, diabetes, bad knees, etc.  I want to be able to participate in basic fun stuff without special considerations for my size.

The health coach training got me thinking lower carb, high protein, more fresh ingredient cooking and our best friends are gluten intolerant.  So we have been cooking the way my sleeve should enjoy being fed for some time.

I take care of my 93 year old mother and enjoy a german shorthair dog that I inherited from my daughter, two cats and a canary. I like to garden, quilt and crochet.  I truly love to travel, but at this size the 17 hour plane ride to Africa last year was grueling.  It took me months to recover. I'd like to try it again in better condition!

That is essentially me in a nutshell.  I found out about bariatric pal when I read "The Big Book on Gastric Sleeve" and have enjoyed lurking.  I hope I get to know many of you and we can support each other the rest of our lives on this journey!
