Well it is the morning of October 24, 2014 and I am staring out my window looking at a hummingbird at my feeder wondering to myself am I really do this...this being my upcoming Vertical Sleeve Surgery.  I just found out yesterday. Let me back up...My name is Shannon and I started this journey in September  8th, 2011.  That is the date I went into my family doctor and asked him to refer me to a doctor at the West Coast Bariatric centre in Richmond, BC Canada. (after many months of researching the procedure and years of countless yo yo dieting).   I don't have a significant other and haven't since 1997. I have to date only told 3 people of my journey. They do not include my family other than 1 sister. She is being silent about it at this point.  My decision to not tell anyone is simply because I was unsure if i was really going to do this. Secondly, I am embarrassed for being so weak that I could not do this on my own. I just don't want the looks, the questions, the judgement.  I don't know how long i can keep it quiet especially since I will be away from work for a month but I don't feel like I want to tell the world. Of course silence is only as good as the secret the other 4 people have now about me. I do trust them..but things slip.
Back to the waiting...it was March 2014 before I heard back from the Garratt Wellness people.  I had attended an information meeting..well you all know the routine.  In April, I walked out of the Garratt Wellness clinic having signed my consent to the program and surgery. I was 286.6 lbs. Fast forward to yesterday.  I met with the surgeon, Dr. Sampath for the first time.  He told me he needed to do a scope in 2 weeks and then surgery would be on November 20th! OMG, so soon.  I have so much planning and prep to do at home and work. My next few weeks are going to busy for sure. Stay tuned.
