Hi there,

Just had my 54th birthday, another year that I have promised myself to be the last year of crippling blubber. I've had a weight problem since puberty and can link just about every negative thing in my entire life to my obesity. This year things will change. I'm currently recovering from vertical sleeve surgery performed four days ago.

As the date for surgery approached, I expected to become more and more fearful, but instead was surprised to find myself anxious to get it done. Last Tuesday I walked myself into the operating room and plopped down on the operating table with enthusiasm. Woke in a large, clean, single patient room and was attended to by a dozen of the nicest people I've met working in hospitals. The hospital I'd picked was basically the opposite of the one close to my home and was well worth the extra driving. I was released the next day.

We went to get my perscriptions from our local pharmacy but they had 'lost' the painkiller one and only had the blood-thinner injections. My wife bought otc generic acetaminophen liquid which took the edge off until the next day when our doctor's office got ahold of the pharmacist. I am currently weening off it as the pain has lessened.

Currently eating the two weeks of protein diet we bought. I have spent years on Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers and always felt starved on 2500 calories but with the Health Wise, I feel stuffed on a 500 calorie diet. That just blows my mind.
