My name is Ruth and I have been chronically overweight my entire life with the exception of one or two periods during college and graduate school when I was able to keep the weight off. My height really allowed me to hide my weight well and so I was never really troubled by my appearance. In 2012 I was diagnosed with PsuedoTumor Cerebri or IIH and referred to John Hopkins for Treatment. Treatment consisted of very high doses of diamox and other drugs to decrease the amount of spinal fluid my body was creating but apparently not using. After of a year on the meds and all the side effects I asked my neurologist what the alternatives were. He suggested weigh loss surgery and so that is what I did. I didn't want my head open- for any shunting type procedures and so I opted for Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy Surgery which I knew would allow me to get my overall health back in order.
