  1. Hi everyone, I'm have a Gastric Bypass on 3 March 2017 and would like to hear from anyone that has the above illnesses or something similar. Would like to hear of your experiences. Good luck everyone and thanks, Janice Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  2. Hi DC6064. I haven't had my thyroid removed but have had other surgery. I have had gastric bypass 10 weeks ago, but I also have M.E./CFIDS, lupus and depression. I don't want to sound negative, but It is hard going, especially energy wise. I had a severe lack of energy for the last 22 years, but this took it to a whole new level. I am also on throyxine. I would discuss your concerns with the surgeon, and if you don't feel that you have your questions answered, postpone the date of surgery. I found it almost impossible to get information about my surgery and various illnesses. My General practitioner didn't know anything about bariatric surgery and the group of health professionals at the weight loss clinic didn't know anything about Lupus, CFIDS, etc and surgery. Sorry that I can't be of more help. I would just get as much information as you can, especially independent of your weight loss clinic. All the best.

    Surgery aborted

Hi, sorry that you are disappointed. I had a gastric bypass on 3 March 2017 and the surgeon noticed a lot of scar tissue and tissue adhesion during the surgery. The surgery was twice as long as planned. I had to pay for my surgery, (very little is covered by the public health system in New Zealand, and private insurance doesn't cover bariatric surgery here), I'm wondering if I hadn't paid, whether the surgery would have been aborted. I have M.E. and Lupus as well. This journey has turned out to be a lot harder than I mentally prepared myself for.

    Depression and Hormones

Hi, I am 52 and take Venlafaxine (Effexor). I'm wondering if the absorption of the drug has been affected by the surgery). I was also taking other medications such as Prednisone, and Thyroxine, amongst others prior to surgery. All of them had to be stopped as my gut ulcerated and any pills irritated it. I have been post menopausal for a number of years. Everything had changed including sleep, energy etc, and not in a positive way.

    Buddy...anyone?

Sorry to hear that you have not had support from your family and friends. Please feel that you are supported on this forum. There are a lot of people who have had surgery and that most of their support comes from online forums. I'm one of those people. You are not alone.
  6. Hi, I'm on Day Day 6 of a 3 week pre-op diet. Our pre-op is very strict. Two protein shakes a day. With having a soy and dairy intolerance, this is proving to be quite difficult, but I appear to be losing weight. We must lose 6-7 kg prior to surgery.
