Fluids with meals
I had VSG. I have drank water with meals since the beginning without harm or pain or any other issues. The official word is not to because that is what was true for other weight loss surgeries previously. Talk to a knowledgeable surgeon off the record and see what they have to say. This does not apply to banders or to bypasses, only VSGs.

New addictions?
I'm not banded, I'm VSG but I sure have seen A LOT of folks switch to alcohol and it's scarey. It isn't really enjoyable to me near as much since surgery. I feel blessed on that front. I gotta watch myself when it comes to clothing shopping. Is it an addiction. I don't think so. It's a heck of a lot if fun after having everything hang wrong on me. I have a lot more choices and I like it. I'm about over it now though so not addicted...lol...I'm waiting on that exercise addiction to hit. I exercise but to be a little more compelled to do so would be great!!

What Do You Do When a Craving Hits?
It depends Alex. Giving in all the time is what got me to where I was. I give in occasionally. Usually if I crave something now it's like it was today. I was craving an egg and some ham. I went and bought it and cooked it up. No big deal. Protein is what I need. That said, the tool I have won't allow me to eat 3 candy bars, a liter of soda, and something salty like I used to. It just isn't happening so when I have something it is such a tiny portion that it really isn't a big deal. I do know folks however that have learned how to get a massive amount of garbage into their systems. I don't suggest trying to figure these things out!! Self control feels really good. There is nothing as satisfying as mastering myself has been!!????

August Sleevers Check In
Good luck to you all. I was August of last year. This has been the best thing I have ever done. I am down to 134.5 pounds as of this morning. I exercise regularly. I have a confidence and esteem I never had before. What I have learned on this journey I have been able to bring to other areas of my life. Life is just getting better and better. I wish you all the same!!

Sleeve doubles in size after 1 year?
Absolutely not!! It does not double and the portion of the stomach that is left cannot stretch UNLESS your surgeon messes up on the top cut which is a precarious cut and cuts too wide. If you have an experienced surgeon this will not be an issue. After a while the hunger hormone can start working again as your body adapts. If you use that as an excuse to stuff yourself you will gain weight. You be in charge. Take especially the first year to get tough and change your habits so that when this happens you are in charge and not your hunger!!

First Options Class
Hi Dualstarr...I decided to have the surgery April 8th, 2013, saw my doctor the following day and she referred me. I went to the orientation the following week and started Options on May 1, 2013. I have not had my surgery yet. My class ends on July 17th. I have heard that some folks in classes that just finished have had their surgeries within a week of class ending. I think it may depend upon the Kaiser though. Our LCSW said it could be about 3 weeks before we get a call for an appt. with the surgeon...I think at our Kaiser that is the official line but I have heard lots of cases where that has not been true. My Kaiser has a support group on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month. I went last night and it was pretty good. My Kaiser is in Harbor City.

How are your classes going Rebecca?

First Options Class
They did tell us daily 30 minutes of aerobics for the rest of our lives BUT others of our speakers said that they know this is not realistic...that we have to figure out we really can do, to make realistic goals and not ones full of excuses.
