May 7th- 4 days and counting!

First let me introduce myself, My Name Is SarahBellzz, I'm from brooklyn n.y, I'm being banded by dr. Piotr Gorecki @ ny methodist hospital. weight is 203.5 height 4'11, co-morbidities are: Sleep apnea, High cholesterol, and Severe hip arthritis (that doesn't qualify for the replacement it needs b/c of my age and weight) I'm Nervous. to be completely honest terrified. I'm just looking for other people who are on the same path as me, and that understand exactly what it is I am going through (b/c I've always been the fat kid in the corner) I just wanted to say hello, and so far reading everyones posts has helped me mellow out just a bit. I'm trying to use this to find other people in the NYC area that have been banded by my surgeon as well. Talk to me!!!!

Hi my name is Richie in CT. I was banded on 3/30/09 and have lost 35lbs. I have been fat since i was 7 years old. This is the best thing i have ever done. I'm not going to lie. The 1st 2 weeks suck but after that you will be golden. I wiss you lots of luck and keep in touch.

Richie

Hi, Sarah! I'm also being banded on the 7th! Glad to have you here as a Mayo Bandito -- it's a great group of people who can totally relate! I've had weight problems since age 8, so I know -- boy do I know -- how you felt about being the fat kid in school. That was awful. :)

There are lots of threads going on the Mayo Banditos forum. Here's a link to all of them: May 09 Bandsters - Lap Band Surgery and Lap Band Discussion Forum

Hi Sarah,

Welcome and good luck.....I'm being banded on 5/11 @ NYU with Dr. Fielding. This is a great group of people to lean on for support.

They changed my date to May 21st, on monday morning, I'm still really aggrivated about that, because I was mentally and physically prepared for it, spent all day monday hysterical and had to see my pcp at 6 am yesterday and got the only attitude from him, and they changed my date BECAUSE OF HIM. he didn't properly write the letter to my insurance. so it has to be re-done. BUT it also buys me time b/c I had a sleep study done last week to confirm my sleep apnea so the full report will be in by the time I'm on the table.

Spideymom, I wish you the best of luck tomorrow, and look forward to hearing more positive things from you, and Richie & John- THANK YOU.

NYU doesn't take my insurance. I wanted to see dr. ren, but Dr. Gorecki at methodist is the only one who I can see, he's a nice guy and I trust him... So Thank you everyone!!!!

Hi, Sarah. Sorry to hear that they changed the date on you! I would be so mad!!! :cool2: I hope everything else continues to go well.

Hi Sarah. I hope the procedure went great.

I am also looking to use PIOTR GORECKI MD, but haven't heard much about him. Like you, my insurance didn't fully cover an NYU surgeon. So, I am hoping Gorecki is just as great.

What do you think so far?

Jim
