Hello, I'm Joshlyn. I'm 23 years old and as of friday 3/20 I weighed 302lbs. I have always been overweight, but it's been in the last 4-5 years that I really started putting on the weight. I have a friend that had her surgery in August 2008 and she's 19 5'5" and weighed 287 when she had surgery and she's lost like 50 lbs. I have another friend that's had it, as well as my own mom having it. The reason I've decided on Lap-Band is because I know that it is possible for me to lose the 166lbs I need to lose to get to the recommended weight, but at the same time, the rate at which I would lose the weight would force me to REALLY learn how to change my lifestyle for the best. I like that you don't lose weight so fast that you run the higher risk of losing your hair and stuff like that.

Well if you look at the facts - in the FAQ section, it says that there are no studies that have been done that show sustained significant weightloss in the morbidly obese. Surgery is the best chance we have.

I understand what you mean - I don't ever think I would ever be a thin person - so I am concerned about undergoing a major operation when I don't wholeheartedly believe I can ever get there.

But its the best shot I have.... so I am going to do it.

I would have lapband surgery again in a heartbeat. I am 5' 10" and I weighed 410lbs. I had surgery in Sept and now I am already down to 330lbs. This has changed my life so much that I am able to feel more confident about myself and I have noticed that I have a lot more fun in my life now. Dont think of the band as the solution but as a tool to help you acheive your goals. Dont base your decision on others outcomes because you will still need to work at it and change your lifestyle. If you are expecting the band to do the work for you then you will want to try something else cause it will be a waste of time if you dont fully commit to the diet and exercise. Take your time to decide but I think that if you are willing to make the change in your life and stick with it you will find that loosing the weight is easy and you won't really think about it all that much. It takes 22 times to make something a habbit. If you stick with the change for 22 days and dont defer it will become a habbit and it will seem like a normal day thing for you.

All in all... Make the decision based on what you want and your expectations. Dont rush cause this will take some time but I think that if you get it done you will look back on this and say to yourself that it was well worth it.

Hey there!

I was just banded March 12th and I will say that I would do this over again. So far I have lost 15 lbs. The restriction is something I could never do on my own and was my biggest set back. I tried Weight Watchers over and over again, I was always able to stay on course but never could feel full enough. The band has given me that sense of fullness.

Surgery is a scary thing but the fact that this is a tool that will keep me thin makes everything worth it.

If you have any other questions... I'm here!!!

I'm 27 with 3 kids and had surgery 1/16/09. When I went in for surgery I weighed 310lbs (I don't think I've admitted that to anyone) as of this morning I weigh 261. In about 2 months time I've lost just about 50lbs. But this is NOT just because of the band. I count my calories, I exercise about 3 times a week, and I make sure to eat plenty of Protein. I made a commitment and I owe it to myself and my family to keep it. It's not easy. But when I have a craving for something I eat ONE bite. My husband got banded 2 weeks after I did and has had similar results. But you have to go into this saying "I'm going to change my life once and for all... I'm going to do this and be a success story". I would do this surgery again tomorrow if I had to. It's literally changed my life. Good luck in your journey!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
