Banded March 18th!!!

I was banded today March 18th.

I went into the OR around 2pm and woke up sometime after 5pm. They repaired my Hiatal Hernia and I only had three incisions instead of the usual five. My doc said I was the easiest surgery he had all day.

I can't stress how important it is to get up walk around as soon as possible. I had some gas when I woke up but once I started moving around I started burping and the gas pains seemed to have dissipated. I've been home for a few hours now and the worse pain is from the port incision.

I'm wanting to cough but just can't seem to get it right. I feel some stuff on my chest and I want to get it moving.

Anyone else get banded today? If you've been banded already how are you feeling?

Congrats! Glad everything went OK - my mom got her band in Dec and I remember her saying that the only thing that was really sore for awhile afterwards was where the port is...I am getting mine on Monday (23rd) and am having a tubal at the same time (kill two birds with one stone!) and will have on extra incision due to that, but it shouldn't be a big deal.

I was also told by folks that have had it that as you recuperate the next few days a little walking will definately make you feel better - even when you feel too tired to do it...nothing strenuous, of course! I think it takes awhile before you are released for hard core exercising?

Have a great day - get some rest!

Thanks! Today wasn't actually too bad. I've been walking so it has helped with keeping the gas moving. Right now I'm trying to find a happy medium between just enough walking and doing too much.

I think it's great that you're getting the tubal done at the same time as your band. It's knocking out the two surgeries in one go and you'll have less pain in the long run.

I was also banded March 18th. I am feeling well. No pain meds since the day I left the hospital. I have my first post-op visit tomorrow. I am still on Clear liquids and I imagine I will be advanced to full liquids tomorrow. Have you found any challenges yet? I agree with walking as early and as much as possible. Congrats!

P.S. How do you get the ticker to appear on your profile?

WOW! It's so awesome that you're doing so well. I wish I could say the same. I am absolutely miserable...in pain all the time and the gas is just ridiculous. The liquid diet has been rough. I seem to get full quickly and the burping starts etc but my stomach burns from being hungry. The constant hunger is literally consuming me. I had to go see my therapist because I've been so anxious about being hungry.

He prescribed aversion therapy and I'll let you know how it goes.

How was your follow-up appointment? I have mine tomorrow.

I am sorry that you've been having hunger and gas pains. Do you think the pain might be partly due to your hiatal hernia repair? I hope your f/u appt goes well tomorrow and you start to feel better. I had all the symptoms you described this past weekend but they started feeling better by Sunday night. My appt went fine today. I am now on full liquids which is nicer than the clears. I have a group diet meeting next Wednesday. Let me know how things go for you! Good luck.

It never occured to me that the pain could be from the hernia repair. I took a zantac a few hours ago and it's helping with the burning sensation. I've never had heaartburn so it didn't occur to me that I had heartburn. I'm feeling a little bit better and hope things get moving soon (gas).

I'm glad your appointment went well. How long will you be on full liquids? I think I start mushies not this saturday but the following saturday.

I'm going to my first post-op support group on monday.

I totally forgot! To add the ticker to you signature go to tickerfactory.com and create your ticker. To add it to your signature go to the User CP and click on edit signature and then place the code for the ticker in the box.

Hope that helps :cursing:

I am glad you are starting to feel better. I think I will be on full liquids until I have the first dietician group meeting, then I think she will advance us to mushie foods. Full liquids definitely feel like a treat!

I started taking the zantac and my pain has decreased significantly. I think I was having major issues with gas. Today was actually tolerable. I just need to work on getting my energy up. How are you doing? Glad you were able to figure out the ticker.

Hi

Sorry I haven't been here in a while... I got an infection and was readmitted to the hospital 1 week ago. I am now on IV antibiotics twice a day and have a drain coming out my side. They may have to remove the port, but leave the band. How are you?

  • Author

Oh no! That's terrible. I hope you're on the mend soon.

I'm doing pretty good. I had my first fill today and I'm starving because of the liquids.

  • 4 weeks later...

Hi Aurelia... just to update you the drain and IV are out and I have started working out at the Y. So far I did 4 days last week, with one day off and started up again this week. I am hoping to make this my normal routine.

How are you doing since your fill? My friend who had surgery the same day as us has lost 10 lbs in 2 weeks and is having trouble tolerating solids. Like you, she also has 4 ccs in her band.

It looks like they will not have to remove the port. The infection seems to have subsided, I have 2 more days of oral antibiotics. My 1st fill is scheduled for May 26th.

So I had my first fill today. I found out there was 2cc in my band already and 2cc were added today. The process was pretty painless, but it did take awhile because my port was deep and low. I have plateaued so i am hoping this will give me a jump start. I'm on liquids for the next 3 days and softs for 2 days after that. I am hungry so I'm hoping these few days so by pretty fast.

Karen,

I'm glad you're finally on the mend. I had hand surgery last thursday and I haven't been able to do much since. I've lost weight so I'm ok with not doing anything. Since my last post here I have had several fills. I had 2cc's put in during the surgery...I wasn't aware of this. First fill they added 2 cc's more. Then I went and got 1cc followed by two more fills of .5cc's. I'm up to 6cc's now and I'm thinking I might finally be getting some restriction.

I"m glad they don't have to remove your port and hopefully May 26th will hurry up so you can get your fill.

Isn't it weird that they don't tell us about Fluid being in the band. I was surprised when I went for my first fill and found out I had 2cc's already. I don't know how aggressive your doc is but mine tells me to come back in a week after a fill if I'm still hungry. The liquid days are the worse after a fill so I feel your pain.
