Could someone give me a general difference between pureed and mushy foods?

Puree is more like liquid (think baby food consistency). Mushy is thicker, but not solid. Refried beans,scrambled eggs, cottage cheese are all mushy. Apple sauce is a puree. I hope this helps.

Actually, I don't think there is a difference. Puree is what you do to food to MAKE it mushy.

Mushy/soft food is anything you can eat without chewing. Pureeing can indeed make anything into that consistency.

That's the way I've always figured it.

The way I would look at it is ..... if it will go through a straw, then it's liquid stage, otherwise, mushy.

My doctor told me I could have anything while in liquid stage that would go through a straw, but don't use a straw.

1. food prepared by cooking and straining or processed in a blender

Verb: puree pyû'rey

1. Rub through a strainer or process in an electric blender

To me there is a difference in mush & puree

Mushy to me is cottage cheese, oatmeal, refried Beans etc

those do not seem to be puree to me, just my opinion
