Risks from travelling?

Hi all, i am about to go to brugges for my band, however i have been made aware about the risks from travelling (esp long haul travel)! Anyone with any experience with this... my travel involves going to africa for long periods of like 3 months... my consultant nurse says not to worry as it would only affect me immediately after a re-fill? is there reason to worry? i am at a point where am thinking of changing and have a by-pass which i think is more intrusive than a lapband... anyone out there with experience in travelling and is banded please get back to me... am due to be banded on the 19th!
