Whether it be for the environment, cost, or whatever other reason you choose, what do you think?

I use cloth and I prefer to use fuzzi bunz diapers since they go on like a 'sposie. I have a HE washer so I dont go through too much extra water washing and I line dry when I can to cut down on that. Anouther reason I chose this particular brand (after, of course trying most other ones out there) was because of how fast they do dry, even in the dryer. It makes me sick to pay for diapers (for the occasional times I have needed to use a paper diaper) I just throw away now that I have spent so much time using cloth.

Hmm.... disposable for diapering, but cloth diapers are great for burp pads, changing pads, etc. So... both?

When I was pregnant 17 years ago, I was given a gift certificate for a diaper service. We used that until our daughter was ready to move to bigger-girl pants. I remember the price wasn't bad and they picked up dirties twice a week. We used disposables for traveling. I don't know if diaper services are even around anymore. I would not have used cloth without the service, because we have a dinky stack washer and I'd be washing all the time if I had to.

Cloth all the way, and LOTS of Fuzzibunz, they rock! Pocket diapers are the cloth answer to disposables - trim, convenient, stay dry cover, super easy to wash and dry.

With cloth, you dont have to wet pail and use chemicals, dry pail, cold wash, they are no more energy and resource intensive than sposies, because they're only manufactured ONCE.

There is nothing better than a cuddly cloth bum.

We got into it by accident, all three of mine were really sensitive to disposables, horrid rashes and the like and it cleared up with cloth. I wouldnt do the old terry squares though. Prefolds have NEVER been around in Australia, I have no idea why, because I think folded into three and laid in a cover they work really really well, so much easier than folding and pinning. And I had a brief look at the new Bumkins covers the other day and it makes me want to have another baby!

There's ALSO a whole comminity of cloth users out there on line, and some great mama made products, real collectors items. I have a few Made by Mom ones here that would probably go for $100 each on ebay now.

Cloth all the way- you can make cloth diapering as hard or as easy as you want to. I second (third?) Fuzzi Bunz- although I hear good things about the newer BumGenius! ones, too (never got to try them before S potty-learned, though). They are simple to use and wash, and they're husband-friendly. Good old disposable!!! It's bad enough to have to smell what came out and then have to wash it. Hell no!

im seriously looking into cloth, probably fuzzibunz. i looked into bumgenius, but cannot find a retailer near me (their website has places listed, but when i called, they said they dont carry bumgenius ???

Hi! We use both.. we use cloth when we are at home and disposable when we go out.. we got the brand 'motherease' and LOVE them.. they have a one size fits all size with multiple snaps and they have grown right along with our growing daughter.. they also have a leak proof cloth cover instead of the plastic ones.. they are so easy to use.. snap just like you are putting on a disposable.. we wanted to use cloth for the enviroment and also for the cost cutting.. but didnt want to carry around a dirty cloth diaper when we are out.. :Dancing_biggrin:

You can order them online. There are several places, but I know this one sells them. Cloth Diapers, Cloth Diaper Covers, bumGenius, Bummis, Kissaluvs and MORE from the top Ranked Online Cloth Diaper Store I've also heard that some Targets now carry Bumgenius too.

We used cloth on both kids until they potty trained. I got into it because my DS had awful rashes that didn't go away until we tried cloth. I mostly used prefolds and covers, but also some Fuzzi Bunz and ones from various work at home moms. There are so many cute diapers out there. I loved them. We kept a dry pail, threw them in the wash every couple of days, and that was it. Without the chemicals, the poop doesn't smell nearly as bad either.

You'll find that fuzzibunz, with hemp or microfibre inserts are way trimmer and much less smelly than cotton prefolds anyway. Hemp is antimicrobial and when the delightful odor of poo pervades the room it wont be coming from your baby's bum! It will smell enough to know but not enough to clear a restaurant.

But cloth diapering can be expensive - especially if you go for a sized system.

we used prefolds and covers in the early days - you dont ahve to fold and pin, fold the prefold in 3 across the seams, lay it in the cover and velcro the cover into your baby - google trifolding. That was cheap and easy for the newborn to 3 months period and then we invested in sized diapers after that.

ok, so the tri-folds are like the 'old fashioned' diapers ... those look complicated!! i just dont want to end up with a huge mess... i am NOT a poop fan (not that anyone really is, but :biggrin:)

Prefolds are really easy. I never pinned a diaper in 3+ years of cloth diapering. If you use covers like Bummis Super Whisper Wraps or Proraps, they hold everything in. I never had a blow out like with disposibles. You can also get this thing called a Snappi, which will hold the diaper into place too.

I think you'd need at least a dozen diapers per day if you go with an all-in-one or pocket system. I always had at least 2 dozen prefolds with about 6 covers per kid. If there is no poo on the cover, you can rinse it and hang to dry and reuse between washes. With a newborn, the more the better so you aren't washing constantly.
