I need someone to help me through this

Recommended Posts

I'm LeAnn. I'm 27 and I live near Frederick, MD. I've been married for 7 years (as of yesterday :w00t:) and we have one son, who is 3. I've just started the process of getting a lap band and I feel entirely overwhelmed. I've been approved for my surgical consults with Dr Scot Currie and I'm in the process of getting my psych eval and such. I have my first appt with the surgeon's office on Friday and I have no idea what to ask! I know (from research on the internet) that he has a good track record and he's pretty darn cute. :cool2:

I'm 5'2 and 255 (BMI is 46%). I considered both banding and bypass, but I feel banding is the nest option for me. I'm young and this is both able to be reversed and it doesn't interfere with pregnancy, should we decide to have another child.

The only people I've told about this surgery is my husband and my parents. And, honestly, the only reason I told my parents is because I plan on letting them keep my son. I don't plan on telling anyone else. My MIL would patronize me (despite desperately needing the same surgery, IMO) and it's just no one else's business. This is something I'm doing for my health and so I can be the mom I want to be to my son and hopefully have another baby one day. I don't want to be a fat mom forever. :wink2:

I would be happy to be here for you to bounce questions off of as needed. I was banded on 4/19/08 and as of today have lost 42 lbs. I have a goal of 100 total pounds to lose. I'm 5'1" and started at 230 lbs. Our only difference is age as I'm 47, and I have not had a problem telling others. It is not their business, but I am so proud to have had this change in my life!!!! Good luck to you and I'm here if you would like to visit!

Hi Leann! Welcome to LB talk...I am 28 years old, two kids and just got banded on 7/29/08..I actually lived in Maryland for 5 years. We lived in Hagerstown and I worked in Frederick. We miss it up there! If you have any questions always feel free to ask them. I had a heck of a time getting approval from insurance and stuff..but once the ball got rolling, the surgery came quick. Take care and we'll talk to you soon!

Nicole

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
