It was my staple. Make sure you avoid any big Egg Clumps - you may want to strain it (which is what I did). It had so much flavor. By the third day into post-op liquids I wanted something flavorful. Egg Drop Soup was my savior.

Great question, and Leslie, thanks for the advice. I am not banded but saw this post and had to read it...I love egg drop! And surprisingly, I can make it myself and it's not so bad!

Does anyone know a good way to add the egg so the clumps aren't as big when you make it yourself? :cursing:

Don't get your broth TOO hot (not a rolling boil) and beat it like crazy with a fork as you add the beaten egg to the hot broth. You'll get minimal clumps. I lived on this in the beginning. You can use all manner of different flavored broths as well.

Hey what about the clear soup from Japanese restaurants, its my absolute favorite! I'm planning on calling to see if I can buy some by the gallon for afer the surgery! lol

The wonton soup is fine as well...just don't eat the wontons (Chinese). The Japanese chicken broth Soup is fine. Strain it though - it usually has chives and mushrooms.

I sent DH out to get Chinese some nights. He had the food and I drank the soup. I had the Japanese Broth when we went out to eat about a week post-op...it was really good too.

After two days on broth, I was gagging. I survived by straining canned soups, pea, lentil, chowder, stews and egg drop. It was fine, I wouldn't have made it otherwise.

Did egg drop Soup also, probably 3 days after surgery. Before that I didn't really want anything to eat/drink.

I still have it on the "after-fill" days.

I had egg drop soup A LOT during my first week post-surgery all-liquid diet. I tried it from 3 different restaurants. It saved me during that time, but now even the thought of it makes me gag! Too much of a good thing I suppose.

I did a lot of egg drop soup too but I thinned it with chicken broth. Dr had me on clear liquids only, so I had to make the egg drop clearer!! For clumps, stick it in a blender!!

I ate the egg drop soup on my 6th day after surgery. Oh my gosh!!!!! It too saved me. So yummy. It felt like I had some substance in my stomach. My Jello, broth, etc would go right through me and left me running to the potty. But the egg soup stopped that. I had a little bit more energy too. Just that tiny bit of protein did wonders. I also added chopped green onion, and mushrooms for added flavor. I just strained them off along with some of the large egg strings. I just had some again the other day. I'm 6 months post op. I think it is now my new comfort food. It reminded me of how far I have come!
