Lap band fills

Hi:

I was banded on 7/21/08, and see my doctor on 8/5/08. Do you usually

get a fill this early? Also, do they hurt? thanks,

norad10

No, you probably are only going in for a follow-up. Two weeks is way too early; you shouldn't get a fill until six weeks because the sutures holding the band in place need to heal first.

I had my first fill two weeks ago and it didn't hurt much...the needle prick is about the same as when you get blood drawn.

I went today for a fill (which is what my appt was for) and was turned down since I am only 26 days post op....they said I have to be at least 30!! I wish the idiot who made my appt knew that!! I am going back Thursday morning for my fill and then leave the next day for vacation!!

Hi MarylandMommy,

You may want to reschedule that appointment until after you get back from vacation. my doctor will not do fills if you are going to be going on vacation within 2 weeks of a fill. Incase you find that you are over filled.

Does your doc know you are leaving for vacation? If he doesn't then finds out at your appointment heor she may not fill you until you get back.

Please just becareful. You want to enjoy your vacation.

I had my 1st fill today, 4 ccs. Didn't hurt but I know I will be sore tomorrow due to all of the poking and pushing the Dr. did to find the right spot. I never felt any restriction when drinking, but he felt like he got it in the right place, so I guess we'll see. My fill site bled a good bit but it is fine now.

I WAS BANDED ON OCT. 16, 2007. AFTER SEVERAL SMALL FILLS I REACHED 3 CC'S IN A 10 CC BAND AND I HAD GOOD RESTRICTION. I WAS EATING A CUP OR LESS OF SALAD ECT. I HAVE WENT 18 WEEKS WITHOUT A FILL, TOTAL I HAVE LOST 114 LBS. NOW I SEE THAT I AM HAVING LESS RESTRICTION. I AM ABLE TO EAT 1 1/2 TO 2 CUPS OF FOOD. I HAVE SCHEDULED NEXT WEEK FOR ANOTHER FILL. IS THIS NORMAL TO HAVE RESTRICTION FOR SO LONG AND THEN FEEL THAT YOU NEED MORE? IS IT DUE TO MY STOMACH SHRINKING POSSIBLY? ALL INPUT IS GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Congratulations on your weight loss!

Yes it is normal...you lose fat from around your stomach then your band gets loose.
