Why does weight lost stop immediately after surgery?

Recommended Posts

Ok so I am very curious how this is possible. I was on the liquid diet and lost one pound a day. So then I had the surgery and today is the 4th day I consume around 200 calories a day and I have not lost anything since the surgery. I read on here that most ppl dont loose the 1st week after sugery.. but how is that possible? I am a lil confused on this. If anyone knows the answer please explain ;)

When I went post-op day 2 to get my staples out the nurse said not to be weighing myself yet because I was still full of liquids and bloated from the gas they use for surgery. Today I am 5 days post-op. I don't have a scale at home so I don't know how much I've lost-if any.

I have heard that it is the gas and bloating from the surgery. I also don't have a scale at home and i don't plan on getting one! I become WAY tooooo obsessed with the numbers on that scale.

With only 200 calories a day, your body is probably in starvation mode and is trying to hand on to everything. Can you get more Protein Drinks in to increase your calorie intake? Of course, you need to follow your doctor's advice. The weight WILL start to come off...this is the time for healing, so try to focus mainly on that. Good luck! I know it's awfully confusing at times...our bodies are strange, mysterious things!

Everyone is different. I lost 10 pounds right away after surgery and then nothing for a few days. Now I am 11 days post-op and down a total of 14 pounds since surgery day.

I am consuming around 400 calories a day and walking at least 30 minutes daily.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
