Second time around... new date.

Well after my disappointing non op last weekend I have a new date for 16th July. So keep your fingers, toes and eyes crossed for me that my liver has shrunk enough this time please.

:huh2:Sorry if i sound a little dim, i am doing still looking into having a lap-band fitted, what causes a liver to swell? and how do you shrink it? Without pre-op test would i know if i have a swollen liver?

Hey

The pre-op diet is important because it is designed to get your body ready for surgery and make recovery easier. You will need to lose fat around your stomach and liver, as well as shrink the liver itself. If the liver is too large, the surgery may have to be postponed. The diet helps reduce potential bleeding that can accompany surgery by reducing fatty triglycerides from around the liver and spleen.

By following a strict diet, your body reduces its glycogen stores (glycogen is a form of sugar stored in the liver and muscles for energy). With each ounce of glycogen, the body stores 3–4 ounces of Water, so when you follow a very strict diet, especially one that is low in starch and sugar, your body loses its glycogen stores and some water. The liver shrinks as it has less glycogen and water in it.

Hope that helps

It's working out at 4 weeks on this liver shrinking diet. It's hard going but nothing keeps me more focused than looking at my belly scars lol! I have to say... I had WONDERFUL treatment from all the people at the Derby hospital.

i feel for you, i also have to do 4 weeks pre op. but i am looking forward to the weight i will loose whilst on it lol. Its good to hear that you received excellent treatment from staff. the 4 weeks will be over before you know it, the count down begins !!

xx
