Hi there! It seems as though no one has posted in a long while so if anyone is out there willing to chat and share our journey it would be great! Banded April 22,2011 @ Nix with Dr. Carcamo.

I weight through New Dimensions (self pay) with Dr. Stegemann. He is a sweetie, but the thing that chaps my hide is the fill appointments...Plan to take a half day for something that takes all of 5 minutes...total pain in the ass. Oh, and BTW, this doctor's office will have you on 6 weeks of liquids...no mushy stage...6 weeks of pure hell...but, it is worth it. Follow your doctor's advice:))

thanks for that information about new dimensions. maybe you could help me with another question..... i hear a alot of people talk about the protein shakes. all the literature i got about my diet pre and post op says i only drink the protein shake pre-op. but i hear others drink them post op as well? did u drink the protein shakes post-op ?

When I could start full liquids (cream based soups), I also started on protein shakes. I still drink them because I need to get in more protein and for breakfast I don't tolerate food that early sometimes. I tried a few, but have settle on the EAS shakes...right now HEB has them for 4.99 for a four pack, but there is a coupon for a dollar off. which make the 3.99 I think SAM's has a 24 pack for about 24 dollars, so price is pretty close. Start researching your protein shakes now...and don't buy a bunch until you are satisfied that you like them. I tried 4-6 and price gauged whether I bought it, as did calories, carbs, and protein amount.

I'm also from San Antonio and banded Sept 24,07 by Dr. Sonny Cavazos. He is great. I've lost 52 lbs and just had my 4th band fill last Thursday for a total of 4ccs. Taking it slow, but not having any problems either. Just the way I like it. Joined the HealthLink gym last month and I am surprized at how much I am able to do that I never would have considered this time last year. Gave my "fat clothes" to a friend who was just banded last week. This has been one of the best decisions I have made. Keep up the good work everyone!

Howdy dsmit13 and welcome. You know the saying "slow and steady wins the race"...well, you are doing it and you will be the winner:) Keep on rockin',

I am approved!!

Now I have to get a clearance from my PCP for surgery. That appointment is Aug 8. Wish me luck!

Well i got approved by the unsurance company and will be having my surgery on Aug 11th!!! Can't wait:thumbup: Now that i have all that insurance crap behind me i have a whole new set of worries  Main one being what if this doesn't work for me. What if i am that small percentage that doesn't loose weight :crying:. but i guess i just keep telling my self to exercise and watch what i eat. No cheating amd it will all work out. (i hope)

For those of you who were banded by Dr. Carcamo: How long did it take to banded after you got cleared by your PCP? Also, how did you do with the post op diet?

Since I was self pay it did not take too long for me. My 1st consult was in mid May and my surgery was June 25th. The post op diet wasn't too bad. Especially in the beginning because I was just not hungry. I just got my first fill yesterday. On a liquid diet again for 2 days and mushies for 2 days then on to solids. I am hungry today.

Has anyone heard of Dr. Cavazos at N.E. Baptist Bariatric. I have not found anyone who knows of him and am coming from Austin to have my surgery. Luckily I have family in San Antoino.

Hey Drew! I live in San Antonio. I just had surgery yesterday and this forum has already helped me out a bunch. However, I'm no techie and am having some trouble figuring out how to navigate through the site!!

Hi there...I'm going to DR. Carcamo in San Antonio too. I'm from Austin, but the True Results center there is sending me to SA because of my insurance. They said it's their main center, so I figure they must be good. Anyone had surgery w/ him??

I just did my pre-op bloodwork, and have lost 10lbs on pre-op (Atkins diet) so far. I should have a date in the next day or two. But it will most likely be the 2nd/3rd week of Aug. WOOHOO

g00dbyefat: I will be getting banded by Dr. Carcamo at Nix Healthcare downtown. I am a nurse and have heard really good things about True Results. That is where I wanted to have my surgery, but by insurance company would not approve it there. I have lost 19lbs since June following Weight Watchers core program, but have started my Atkins preop diet today. I have completed all my preop testing, but have an appt with Dr. Carcamo a week from this Friday. How soon can you get a date after everything is completed?

Please keep me posted on how you are doing. Hopefully I wont be too far behind you.
