I have already discussed this w/my doc and the answer is - if you need to have it preformed in order to save your life - then there is no question - we would worry about the band later - if you didn't have it you could die.

He really didn't think it would hurt the band - but he didn't know of any cases as of yet.

If you mean "would it work?" the answer is yes. The food chokeing you would be up much higher in your throat and the air being forced from your lungs is what pops out the food.
