OHIP or Insurance

Hi everyone:

I am new to this board and quite excited by what I am reading. I have gone for my consultation and my hubby and I are on board and are hoping to book something for the end of April at the TLBC. I am waiting a little bit as I have an eight week old baby which I had by c-section and just need a wee bit of a rest.

My question is does OHIP pay for any of this surgery - I understand that they are some provinces that pay for some? Or do you know if private insurance will pay for some or all of it? Presently my BMI is 44.4 I am approx. 130 lbs overwiehgt....WHOA just reading that is a bit wild!

Also do you know if this surgery can be used as a tax deduction?

Any input would be greatly appreciated...sorry for all the questions!

The surgery can be used as a tax deduction as of right now it is not covered by OHIP and in Jan the On House passed a bill saying that from now till the end of time the lapband is excluded from OHIP coverage

Good luck and keep posting

I asked the clinic if any patients were successful in getting private insurance to pay for the lapband. They said NO, I checked into my health insurance, the only thing I can do is use my health care spending account which is $250.00. Hardly a dent !!
