Estrogen and surgery...anybody??

Hi ya'll....My doc has advised me to go off my estrace two weeks prior to my surgery...YIKES!!! :crying: I've been on it for 10 yrs due to a total hysterectomy and can't imagine one day without it. I know if I miss one day I start getting clammy and I get a headache. Did any of you guys stay on your estrace for the surgery? I had two knees replaced and didn't have to go off. I'm really worried about how I'll feel going off the estrace. HELP!!!

I was on a hormonal patch for a while and my surgeon did not mention it but I knew I wanted to get off it. I started it becasue of bad and frequent hot flashes. I left it off a few days before surgery and never went back on.

you started the med when you were pre-menopausal age, now that you are menopausal age, what does your gyn recommend?

I figure no matter when I stopped them, I would go through the hot flashes at some point, so why not now?

I would ask your gyn for advice.

Like Shortgal, I had been on ERT since my hysterectomy and for the last few years, had my gynecologist cut back on the patch strength.

I always wore my patch somewhere in my mid-section and so for my surgery, I took it off------and never put it on again!! I had tried and tried to get off it before, only to be like you and wind up with hot flashes constantly.

But this time, nothing--I mean absolutely nothing! AND if anything, I've been more COLD since surgery than warm!! Go figure!!

The most important reason that they want you off of it is to reduce the chance of getting a DVT (blood clot). We are at high risk for DVT when we have this surgery anyway, and the estrace increases that risk.
