Calling all March 3rd Bandsters!!

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I was banded yesterday on 3-3. I feel good except for the gas pains in my shoulders. I dont feel hungry yet, but I feel as if I can drink at least a cup of Fluid.

How about you guys, how are you all doing?

Glad you are doing well. I was banded yesterday too and feeling pretty good today. Dr. Tom Brown in Denver did it.

I walked around alot yesterday and the gas pains never got very bad. Today my incisions are good except for the left one with the port. That still hurts quite a bit. I am actually surprised that the other incisions don't hurt. My gallbladder removal incisons hurt for weeks.

I haven't been very hungry either but had some yogurt and it tasted pretty good. Only could eat less than half a small container. BTW Weight Watchers yogurt is really good and it has 4 grams of Fiber too. A bonus.

I am really glad the first day fo surgery is over- that is always the worst. No way around that miserable feeling after anesthisia.

Hope all the other March 3rd'ers are doing well too.

Sadie

Good to know you guys are doing well!

I'm feeling pretty good, too. My stomach keeps growling but I don't *feel* hungry. I'm on Clear liquids until Wednesday and depending on how I feel, I can start full liquids on Thursday or Friday. I'll be on full liquids for six weeks before I graduate to "regular" food. I hope I can hang in there!

My left side is what hurts the most, too. The other incisions aren't giving me any problems. My throat is very sore, though - more than likely from the breathing tube.

I still have my On-Q apparatus attached. I guess it is some type of antibiotics and pain relief medicine. Once it is empty, we're supposed to remove it. That should be loads of fun.

I started keeping my food diary today. Since I'm diabetic, I'm also taking note of my glucose levels in the morning and evening.

I'm determined to wait until Monday before I weigh myself again - although I have that itch. I know I'm actually a bit heavier today from all the fluids but I still want to peek. I'm so impatient.

Hi-

I got banded yesterday at NYU in New York. Feel good today except for the gas in my left shoulder, but my belly is just sore and I am surprised how well this all went.

I just got home this afternoon. What sort of things are you all consuming the first few days?

I've been sipping ice Water all day long. Every hour I try to have 2 oz of juice (grape or apple) or some broth. I have popcicles and sugar-free Jello in the fridge but I haven't eaten any yet. I think I'll be having some tomorrow, though.

Hi all! I was banded yesterday as well and am impressed you all are doing so well. Yesterday I was in a lot of pain. Especially whenever I would have to stand up. I made myself walk as around the house as much as I could and it did help ease some of the pain. Of course the pain medicine helped a lot too! The heating pad has been wonderful for the gas pain in my shoulders and the gas x strips has been helpful too.

Today I feel so much better. The pain level yesterday I would say was at a 10 but today between a 2 and a 3. YEAH!

I've been starving. But still just staying on the liquid diet. chicken broth, juice, hot and sour Soup, diet Jello and I did have some applesauce that made me feel really full. I've also been taking chewable Vitamins yesterday and today.

My doc said 2 weeks of liquids, 2 weeks of mushies, then two weeks of regular foods then my first fill. When are you all scheduled for your first fills?

Take care everyone! Oh and whimsy, my throat as well was pretty sore due to the breathing tube during surgery.

But we did it! Our first step to a healthier, fitter us has been taken. YEAH!!!

I'm glad you are feeling better, Terri. I've been in some pain today but nothing I couldn't handle.

I think my biggest problem is trying to get my liquids in. I feel so full/bloated that I don't have any desire to sip my Water at times. I force myself to have some sips now and then, though.

I still have gas pains in my shoulders, not too bad though. I cant seem to sleep much. One thing that I am getting used to is not being able to munch on food. You know through out the day when I make my family meals, I am used to just munching. I have caught myself so many times grabbing at something to eat, then realizing I cant have that! It is good, at least I realize just how much I was muching through the day. I am not hungry right now, I hope that I stay that way for the first couple of weeks during the liquid/mushy stages.

I am trying to drink a lot of the special K protien Water.

how about you all, what kinds of things did your Dr. tell you to drink/eat the first couple of weeks? I noticed that one of you are able to have yogurt already. My Dr. said I cant have yogurt until the second week.

It is interesting how Dr.s are different.

Good Luck to everyone!!

hi everyone... i was banded around noon on monday. woke up feeling pretty groggy, but none of the chills and panicky feelings i had after i had ear surgery. having read about the importance of walking asap, i did as much as i could the day of surgery. the first attempt wasn't so great. there was the catheter (damn, was that uncomfortable) and there were the gas pains. it hurt most in my chest, not my shoulder. anyways, i kept getting up and walking. in between, i was pretty drugged out on morphine and sleeping in three to four hour blocks. each time i woke up, i felt exponentially stronger.

made it home yesterday, but not before my upper gi. damn, that was an experience. i had the lapbad-ap put in and my doc's standard of care with that unit is to "install" with a 3cc fill. fine by me, but i'm not sure my radiologist got the message. he had me drink enough barium so that my stomach was filled and the Fluid began seeping into my intestine. well, that required 2 cups of barium and i started feeling nauseous. ugh. back at my room, a cup of broth and green Jello were waiting for me. i had no desire to eat, but i knew that to be discharged from the hospital i had to keep down some food and urinate on my own (no catheter).

i managed to swallow a spoonful of broth, a tablespoon of Jello and a few sips of Water before my first regurgitation incident happened. oy, how unpleasant. first there was the urge to spit and keep spitting and then the heaving up began. having read on other threads about this vile experience, i knew immediately what was happening so i managed to stay calm and get through it. (thanks everyone!) about an hour later, i asked my nurse for anti-nausea meds and that settled me down. my sister and i took another walk around the floor and she distracted me from my discomfort and 30 mins later i was able to try eating again. 2nd try, no probs. i managed half the broth and a quarter of the jello. i was discharged around 4:30p.

now at home and i'm feeling pretty good. of my 5 incisions, only the one with the port hurts. i can touch and press the other ones without much pain. am supposed to start on full liquids today, but i know i'll have to go slow. i prolly will be hungry in a day or two, but for now i've got no appetite.

is anyone doing any kind of stretching to wake up their core muscles? i know we're not supposed to lift weights, but am thinking i'm might stretch out a bit with my elastic bands or somesuch. since i can't bend over very comfortably, i'm thinking of a couple of standing exercises. anyone got ideas?

finally, welcome home everyone. congrats to us all!

3rd day and all is well. I have no appetite however and I had my chewable Vitamin which is cherry and just about gagged on the sweetness of them. Yuck! I think sugar is on my yuck list- hope so!

I had about 250 calories yesterday and felt stuffed. I guess my stomach is recovering.

Unfortunately I ordered a whole lot of the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Protein products and hate them. Hopefully my partner will like them. I like Medifast and Medifast only I guess. My nutritionist doesn't want me to use Medifast because there are 13 carbs per drink and she want drinks with only 5 carbs. Too bad- I can't believe that 8 carbs will make a difference.

She has us on a very low carb diet after the surgery- like no fruit juice. Is anybody else on low carb from their doctor? Gee they all have their preferences. Dr. Brown is very strict with the diets after surgery.

That's it so far- hope you all are recovering and feeling good. Except for the left port site I'm good.

Aww, I love the Unjury products. If your partner doesn't like them, maybe myself or someone else here can take them off your hands? I'd hate for them to go to waste or for you to lose money on them, hon.

My doctor asked that I try to take in about 200 calories a day while I'm on Clear liquids. Depending on how I feel, I may be on full liquids tomorrow. It'll be interesting to see how I tolerate thicker liquids.

It sounds like us Thirders are doing well for the most part. I'm glad to hear it! Keep the updates coming!

I can't believe that all of you are able to have anything except nutrional supplments immediately post op. My band date is March 17th. For the first two weeks I am ONLY allowed three (3) eight (8) oz cartons of either low carb boost, glucerna etc. If I want I can substitute with three 11 oz. cans of low carb slim fast. I have to drink 64 oz of Water per day in addition to the Boost. I have to walk 2 miles a day starting the day after surgery...which I am actually looking forward to. After 2 weeks I can have pureed foods for 2 weeks. I am not allowed any coffee or caffeine during the first 4 weeks. No gum, no breath mints....all sounds good to me. The stricter it is the quicker I will lose.

Andi- I'll let you know if we want to get rid of Unjury although the shipping is usually a lot compared to their $6.00 charge. We can work something out I bet.

I'm glad I logged on this morning and read your posts. I was having some concerns about my port incision because it really hurts whereas all my other ones don't. I was beginning to think maybe I already have an infection or something, but now it's sounding normal. Tender tummy, but a hungry one. So I am different there. And my left side is more sore than the right and so sleeping on the right side is more comfortable.

Banded on 3/3 and yesterday was sent home. Got me a good 10 hrs of sleep and took a shower this morning and feel soooo much better. Getting ready to go outside for a short walk. Some pain in shoulders - either that's gas or just because of the position they had me in during surgery.

I am allowed Protein shakes (I bought some from Quixstar (formerly Amway) in strawberries & cream and they are darn good), Jello, strained Soups, sugar free popsicles and Jello this week. I can graduate to mushies next week (mashed potatoes, apple sauce - anything that can be swallowed but not chewed). Week 3 I get to incorporate some slightly chunkier foods and then week 4 I get filled for the first time.

Oh and I had to have an unexpected esophageal hernia repair. I didn't know I had a hernia - go figure!

We're on our way people! The worst is behind us!

Wow,

It is good to hear from you all about the different approved foods. My Dr. Says only clear liquids and Jello. broth etc. for this first week.

Thankfully I am not hungry. I have not started a food journal, I think it will be helpful to see how many calories I am getting. My Dr. says he wants me to just focus on letting my stomach heal for the first couple of weeks.

next week I can add yougurt and 1 cup of milk a day.

I hope that we can stay strong until we are able to add food. I will be able to get my first fill at my 4 week check up.

How about you guys, how are you all doing today?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
