Back from consult #2

Recommended Posts

Not sure what to think, honestly. I like this surgeon, too, probably just as much as the first one. This one charges about $600 dollars more for a TT/BL than the first, though. There are some differences in the way they do things, but I'm not sure which I prefer. The first surgeon doesn't use a pain pump, the second one does, but said that I might not need one since she didn't think I'd need much, if any, muscle repair (she said that's the most painful part of the recovery). #1 would use an anchor incision for the BL, #2 would use a lollipop incision. Both said that I probably won't need an implant unless I lose a lot of breast tissue over the next few months. Both would likely use the hip-to-hip incision for the TT. Both had good pictures of their results, and both have worked on a lot of WLS patients. Anyway, I like both of them, like both of the staffs, etc., etc.

Bleh. This is hard. :smile2: Oh well, I've got at least one more consult to go to, so I'll make a decision after it.

Good luck with your decision. I heard that an anchor incision can have more complications. This might be something to research or ask Dr. Lo about.

Good luck. I have to agree, the MR was much worse than the inscission pain. It felt like I did a million sit ups. Best of luck.

I interviewed four doctors and settled with fourth. He didn't want to do the implants unless I insisted, which I really liked that idea. You'll know immediately which one is the right one .

I didnt get any MR done and I have had 6 kids, I am soooo glad that I didnt!!LOL I have had a really easy recovery, and I think that my results are fine without it, I just made sure that in the months going up to the sx I did LOADS of abs work, and for the first time ever in my life I am starting to get definition!!

As for the Ta Ta's I would say that the lollipop lift is the better of the 2, less scarring means less healing time and less chance of complications as far as I am concerned!

I knew before I met my PS that I wanted him, saying which if he had been an ass I wouldnt have used him, I have to be able to communicate with my docs or I am not interested.

What about the drain situation - do they both use drains?

I think that the second one sounds more like the one that I would choose but whether they will suit you.......?

Yep, they both use drains. The only issue I have with lollipop vs. anchor incision is that I've always thought that the type of incision depends on how much sagging there is, so I'm concerned that if I go with a lollipop incision, I wouldn't get as much lift as I would with the anchor. I would prefer less scarring, but I'm worried that they won't look as perky as they probably would if I go with #1.

I dunno but I will ask!

That would be great! I went to one of the links that were on MMH (in the BL or BA forum), and it went through the different techniques, and I think it was basically saying that the type of lift used depended on how badly the boobs sagged. For example, the incision that just goes around the aereola is only used for minor sagging. Hmm. I'll try and find that page again and post the link.

EDITED TO ADD: Damnit, of course I can't find the links now that I'm actually looking for them. Could have sworn that they used to be stickied in one of the forums.

This is sorta what I was looking for, but not as good (the other one had diagrams): What You Need to Know About Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

Hi Larend,

I see that we have about the same BMI --- how did you decide when you would go for a tt? I would like to try and do it sometime soonish (like spring or summer) because I need to repair a painful hernia at the same time but I want to make sure that I have good results. How close to goal have the PSs been saying that you need to be?

Hi Larend,

I see that we have about the same BMI --- how did you decide when you would go for a tt? Well, both of the ones that I've seen so far have said that tummy tucks are pretty forgiving, in terms of weight loss, and that someone can lose quite a bit of weight afterwards and still have it look good. Now, of course, that doesn't mean 50 pounds or anything like that, but they said most patients could be about 25-30 pounds from their goal weight when they have the TT and their results would still be fine after losing that. The problem is the boobs. With boobs, both the PS's said that patients need to be fairly close (within 10-20 pounds) to their goal, or they'll probably start sagging again.

I've been losing at a pretty steady rate of about 2-3 pounds a week. I'm wanting to have surgery sometime around mid-May to mid-June, at the earliest (maybe as late as December), so if I stay on scedule, I should be fairly close to my goal by then.

I just wanted to let you that some of these decisions might be more last minute than you think. First of all, when I first met with my PS, I was just having a breast lift. That was about 2 1/2 months before my surgery. When I met 2 weeks before my surgery I had lost another 14 pounds and I had very little breast tissue left. Then the big decisions was if I wanted to have very small perky breasts or get an implant. With a lot of serious contemplation, I opted for the smallest implant possible. My surgeon ordered 3 sizes. I told him on the day of surgery that I wanted the smallest size that would look good. When I woke up, I learned that he was able to make a lollipop incision and that he used the smallest size (321 cc). I can't tell you how happy I am not to have the scar up the midline. I was totally prepared for it, though. My breasts are still bound up, but they appear to have a nice volume and are definetly higher. I think at some point, you have to get all the information you can, ask all the questions you can think of, express your opinion and then trust your doctor. Anyway you need to go, I bet you'll love the results.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
