Why do you get shoulder tip pain?

Recommended Posts

I've been reading several testimonials and alot of them say that occasionally they get shoulder tip pain, why do you think this is? Did your surgeon give you a reason as to why this would happen? Thanks

It is from the gas they inflate your abdomen with during surgery to allow the doc more room to move around in there. It takes a while to dissipate out of your system and commonly pain in the shoulder manifests from the gas.

I agree with Stefanie!

I found moving helped getting the gas out of my body. I also used Gas-X strips - unsure if that helps this type of pain or not.

I felt better taking them. That is all that counts - I guess.

Best wishes.

They actually don't know the cause of it, its assumed to be from the gas pumped in. Also, the pain isn't in your shoulder, its referred pain from the abdomen area.

I had shoulder tip pain after my surgery for about a week. Applying a heat pack helped but I think it just takes time for everything to settle back down again. My surgeon told me it was caused by the two things mentioned above - the gas and referred pain.

The pain is from the gas used to inflate the stomach. When the gas pushes on the diaphram it pushes on certain nerves in your spinal cord which then gets referred up to your shoulder. I also find that I get shoulder tip pain when I have a couple of beers or if I've been drinking too much softdrink...You'll find though that a big burp will make the pain disappear instantly!

The pain is initially from the gas that is pumped into your belly during surgery. It is also referred pain from your diaphragm due to the surgery. Some ppl have pain for several months, I had that annoying pain for about 6 weeks, everytime I ate :). It did clear up by itself and I have not had any problems since. It hurt like the dickens!! Glad it's gone.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
