Slip w/o Pain?

Recommended Posts

Last week I was too tight and a couple of times I PB'ed and had really sharp pain in chest and back area, I figured because the food was stuck and it didn't last too long, I went on Saturday and had a small unfill .3cc and now I have NO RESTRICTION. I alwasy thought I would have continuous unbarable pain if I had a slip, does this sound like I could have had one? I have no pain now other than what I feel from having seen the scale move up 4lbs this week due to lack of restriction. I go back tomorrow and I really just want my restriction back but now I'm scared of a slip.

Wanabthin,

If this is the first time that you had the problem and it was a short duration that the band was too tight I'm going to be optimistic. There is always a possibility that a complication occurs, unfortunately one I'm experiencing now. A few months ago I came to the realization that I was too tight and was PBing, not everything I eat, but a good amount, but I was having no pain. What made me realize that I might have a problem was when this was occurring and I was not losing any weight, and although I was too tight, I didn't necessarily feel the restriction (except for when I would PB). When I went to my temporary surgeon (I go to college away from home so I was seeing a temp) she had be do a upper GI and saw that my stomach was protruding from my band and she immediately unfilled me completely. When I finally came home I went to my surgeon and when he compared my upper GI to a recent one after I was completely unrestricted he said that my band might not necessarily be slipped but I have a prolapsed band, which means that when my stomach came through the band and then back down again, it kind of left some stomach hanging over the band. Now I really don't have much restriction despite the fact that I was recently filled and my doctor has already said that I most likely need corrective surgery.

My case became a worse case scenario and I am only letting you know that there is always the slight chance, but I really don't want you to be terrified. Like I said, I think that you just got a bit to tight and needed to be unfilled a bit and that's why you PB'ed and felt the pain. Ask you doc about the possibility and see what he/she has to say about the matter. Don't worry too much about it, good luck tomorrow and hope you get that fill.

If a few days of PB and sliming causes a slip...then I'm done for!

I pb and slimed almost every day since getting restriction after my 2nd fill.

I still slime from time to time eventhough I had a slight unfill for maintenance.

If you have a good surgeon, you won't slip. My band has been thru the ringer and is just fine.

Good luck and don't worry too much about it. The makers of the band know how someone pb and slimes...and even vomits. They knew this when making the band. It's meant to withstand this....to a point.

So are you not having corrective surgery? Are you ok to keep the overhang and not have the surgery, sonce you don;t have pain?

That is were I'm at...I know I have overhang, I don;t have bad side effects, and I don't want unfill? I have been contemplating trying to get another fill, get off the weight (15lbs) and then get unfill if needed... or... get unfill and try to correct again on its own. I'm just scared of gaining more weight or him telling me I have to have surgery!!

I know I would take a chance if I got a fill at this point, but I want to get another 15 lbs off!

Karyn,

Unfortunately I will be having corrective surgery... I'm looking into getting the RNY. Even with a few fills I have little to no restriction and I've begun to gain some weight (talk about insult to injury). I also have acid reflux, which I never had, and I am on Prevacid and find myself unable to get off it, even though it should have gone away when I was unfilled. I would talk to your doctor about getting a slight fill and see how the feels and if it works for you. I hope it all works in your favor.

This is not true. The quality of your surgeon means nothing when it comes to slips from barfing/sliming. People who slime and barf all the time are asking for a slip regardless of who their surgeon is.

To tell someone if they had a good surgeon they won't slip is completely and totally inaccurate information.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
