First posting for me as well. I just recieved this morning, my surgery date Jan 24th. Up till today I have been nothing but excited about the surgery, now that I have a date I actually feel scared. I hope this is normal.

I am from around austin area. I understand i have been waiting a long time to get my date. I just got notice I have to do a low carb diet for two before my date. How about you?

Hi Pipa, I am in Arlington. Don't worry, I was really scared before the surgery. I even put things in order because I was scared I wasn't going to wake up from the surgery. My husband was pretty dismissive about it. I'm not sure if he thought I was being stupid to think that or if deep down he was a little scared too. I'll think you'll be surprised at how sympathetic he is for you after the surgery though. Mine still is (It has been almost 2 weeks now) and he even eats slow with me at dinner so that I am not eating alone.

I am not on here too often (once a week). But I will look for you and feel free to chat back. I don't have many friends, but the ones I have are not worried about their weight and don't understand. My sister in law is scheduled for surgery on the 25th though. So she will understand. Hope this helps.

Greeting Texans!! I'm in Corpus Christi and congratulations on getting approval and a date. Stay with us. We'll help you through!!

I have not told anyone but my husband I am having the surgery. I just an not interested in the comments from others. I guess I am afraid someone with be negative. My husband has supported me from the start. Yesterday was my first day on the 2 week Optifast diet. It was also my first day without a diet coke. It was not easy but I made it. Had the Tomato Optifast Soup for dinner. Wasn't to bad. It's going to be a long 2 weeks waiting for my surgery date of the 24th. I love reading all the Threads. The support everyone gives in wonderful. I am soaking in all the info.

Hi Newbie from Tx,

I too am a newbir. I wil be having my lapband on Jan 16, 2008. I started down the lapband road in August 2007. I know what you mean. Part of me can't wait and the other part wounders what am I doing.

Welcome Pipa, where are you in TX I live in Houston. I had my surgery on Dec 31st. Good luck on your surgery and you might see if your doctors office can recommend a lap band support group. You would definitely make some friends and get alot of support. Take care.

Road King, I have had a good experience so far. I did have the gas and shoulder pain after surgery. My husband gave me a good massage and took my pain meds and it helped. I lost 16 pounds on the pre-op diet and have lost 12 more since surgery. I couldnt lay down for about 2 nights and slept sitting up in bed. I guess my swelling has gone down bec I am starting to feel more hunger, but I am fighting it and filling up on water and really watching what I eat. I went back to work after one week but I have a desk job so it hasnt been a problem, but I am exhausted at the end of the day and hit the sheets about 8:00 pm. I would suggest if possible you have someone with you at home for at least the first three days just to help with the small stuff. I am dealing with the head hunger now. I will admit I did have one french fry last night but I chewed it well. I am still on mushies until 1/21.

Good luck hope it goes smooth for you.

Scruffy: Thanks for letting me know who you are feeling. Will help me when I go through it. My surgery will be on a Thursday 1-24. My husband will be home with me. I was wondering how long I would need to be off work. I also have a desk job. Sounds like you did ok with a week off. How long were you on the pre-op diet, they put me on for 2 weeks. Optifast.

Dianne

Road King (Diane) I did the pre-op starting Dec 22 with liquids only, and got a break on Christmas day and ate one meal that was not liquid and then back on liquids until the 31st. After surgery I had clear liquids for 3 days, then 3-7 days had full liquids, then mushy for two weeks. I will be able to start my regular foods at the end of this month. I had squash cassarole from Black Eye Pea for lunch and it was wonderful and filling.

With me just on my second day of liquids that squash cassarole sounds wonderful. Yesterday was the first day I went without diet coke, but I am doing better today. Keep in touch, want to know how you are doing.
