Officially a BANDSTER!!!

Recommended Posts

Well, it is official. I had my surgery on Wednesday and got to come home on thursday!:whoo: I am doing pretty well. Surgery day in the hospital was awesome and I didn't really have any trouble with anything--I felt great! I had to do the swallow test to make sure everything looked ok (GROSS!) but it went well. I went home on Thursday with a full liquid :beer:diet and ate 2tsp of cottage cheese yesterday and was stuffed!! Took a while to eat it, but boy did it sound good! I had a scrambled egg this morning for Breakfast and that took even longer, but I couldn't finish it. It is a wierd feeling to feel full after so little! I am excited for when I can venture into more "real" food. I have been doing good on creamed Soups, though. I love Campbell's Soup at Hand!

The only thing I really had any pain with was the gas (of course!) and the port site kind of feels like a pulled muscle, but everything else has been great. Went to the grocery store today and am at the library right now!

I had to be at the hospital at 6:15 am and they gave me a lovinox shot into my stomach (had NO idea they were going to do that!) and then they brought me into surgery at about 8:15am. I was out of surgery and in the recovery room at about 10:15 am and was there for about half an hour! Good luck to everyone. So far I am doing great and it was a very positive experience!

7 pounds since surgery....I think that is awesome! I keep weighing myself because I can't believe it!!!

Funny thing though....I am sitting at the library typing this because I don't have internet at home and I let out a belch (couldn't help it--just comes out!!LOL) and the guy next to me was like...nice!

That's so great to hear you are doing so well. Mine is in 1 wk and it is good to hear surgeries that went well. DOn't worry about the belching, he was probably jealous he couldn't do it.

Cheers!

I am on liquids for a few more days ( I was banded on wednesday) and then thicker liquids for a week before onto mushys. I have to drink two quarts of Water a day and a protien shake so I am sipping water constantly. I feel pretty good, though. A little tired. We went walking around the mall today and a quick trip to the grocery store wiped me out but it gets rid of the gass pains, for sure.

Glad to hear everything went smoothly and you're feeling good! Your doc let you eat scrambled eggs so soon after surgery?

I have to be on liquids for two weeks after the surgery. Its more restrictive than the pre op plan. I can't get down a Protein Shake at all, in fact not much Fluid at all, and I couldn't imagine any cottage cheese. I give you lots of credit that you are getting that down.

Yup, me too....actually I was banded on Friday and am home from Mexico today. I am absolutely ravenous and the liquids go right through me. I drink, and about 15-30 mins later, I am hungry again. Still sore, especially on port side. I have one day until I go to solid liquids!!

hello, tomorrow is my surgery at 12 noon. I have to be at the hospital at 10:00am. I just got over a cold and am hoping the anesthesiologist will clear me to go ahead with the surgery. went to the grocery store today and forgot the darn sugar free popsicles...I will go get them in the morning before i go to the hospital. I am excited and scared at the same time, but so glad to hear your story....makes me have hope for a speed recovery. thanks and good luck.

oh yeah, cottage cheese so soon? good job, but arent you supposed to be on Clear Liquids right now?

I only had to be on Clear Liquids while I was in the hospital. Now I am on "Stage 2" of my diet which is sf instant breakfasts, slimfast, Water, sf popsicles, creamy Soups and I can sub one meal a day with yogurt, cottage cheese, or a scrambled egg. It has been working fine. It does take much longer to eat the "solid" foods, but as long as I chew and eat very slowly I don't have any problems at all. I can't have carbonated drinks or anything with caffeine, but other than that I can have just about any liquid I want. I know some people that don't have to follow any kind of post op diet! I know my next stage I can eat tuna fish and mashed potatoes and all kinds of good stuff!:)I have been losing weight plenty fast, too--at least I think so and I feel great. I haven't had any pain when I eat or any feeling like I need to vomit. I burp a lot when I get hungry though, does that happen to anyone else?

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
