Transfer addictions

  • Popular Post

I’m almost 8 years post GBS and have struggled with transfer addictions since. Alcohol was the easiest because it’s readily available and can be inexpensive (depending on how desperate I was). While trying to stop that addiction, I transferred it to using Kratom. That is not as readily available and has been immensely expensive. But as we know, when you’re addicted, you find a way. I’ve been able to kick alcohol and don’t have any desire to drink now, and I’ve seen my doctor and started a Suboxone treatment to help with the Kratom addiction. I’m still struggling though. I’ve had different therapists throughout these years, but none of them go deep enough to get to the root of my addictions. Just posting to get it out and see what others have done to help with transferred addictions. Thank you!

  • Thank you so much for sharing. I am afraid of this happening to me in some way, shape or form. When food is no longer an option, I'm worried I will become moody and depressed. I have a food addiction.

I quit alcohol cold turkey. That was a week from hell. Since I quit drinking I became very depressed too and was put on antidepressants which I believe is what caused my weight gain. I wanna get back down to the size I was. No reason why I can't reach that goal. What vitamins does everyone take?

Thank you so much for sharing. I am afraid of this happening to me in some way, shape or form. When food is no longer an option, I'm worried I will become moody and depressed. I have a food addiction. That addiction is better now than it has ever been. With that being said, this lifestyle change we've embarked on requires a strong will. Kudos to y'all! It's not easy. After surgery we are forced (like it or not) to drop our food addiction, cold turkey. That is traumatic in itself. So, I understand getting hooked on something post-op.

My plan is to take my food addiction to the gym :) If I can sweat my way through the food cravings while listening to my favorite tunes, count me in! That's my plan. But, we'll see what happens.

I am also going to find a therapist that is well versed in addiction and trauma. That's on my agenda for after surgery!
