Which day does it get better ?

Recommended Posts

Well I am a little over 48 hours with the band (got it tuesday afternoon), and i still feel pretty crappola..

Today i had the mother of all burps, and altho burping hurt like hell, i felt a lot better afterwards. Had to get some nausea medicine called in for me tho cuz i kept feel like i was gonna puke. But i havent yet!

The inscision sites are fine, its just all my other insides that dont feel right yet :/

And im getting a bit tired of sleeping on my back, but sleeping on my side just isnt happening :/

On the BRIGHT side (yes after all my whining), i am very glad the operation itself is over with, and am very proud with myself for going through with it. I just hope i don't drive my hubby crazy in the meantime. He stayed hom the past 2 days to take care of me, so he been getting majority of my whining directed at him :)

I had my surgery on the 12th,and I still feel pretty sore on the inside. I cant really lay on my stomach, or side, either. So, i am forced to lay on my back. yuck. But, its getting better..thats for sure. My insiscions look good, healing..and ive lost 16lbs. I guess my only complaint is that im starving.

Give it time, as each day passes, you feel better.

Yep, I was feeling good 5 days out. Now at 1 week and 2 days, I am feeling good and eating mushy foods without problems.

Wow, thats fast. I had my surgery on the 11th December, I'm still feeling sore on the inside and have been told by my doc that I have to stay on liquids until new year. I had a fruit smoothie yesterday that was very lumpy (chewable lumps) but ate it anyway...I felt so bad after with chest pains, I thought I was havign a heart attack. That will teach me to do as I'm told! Funny how the doc's advice varies.

I was banded Dec 4th and I didn't feel better until almost week 2. I was surprised because I am 26 and all of these other people were saying how quickly they felt better. I finally felt like normal on Sunday and then BAM! Hit with the flu on Tuesday. Knocked me right on my butt. Went to the doc yesterday and now have antibiotics-feelin much better. I just want to feel normal again!!

I've been having these..."chest pains" what are they? are they normal?

Oh yeah, I have been having some chestr pains too but I think it is gas pains. I kind of worry about having a heart attack and not realizing it because I might think it is gas. I don't know what to say about it except that my heart was checked out before surgery and everything was good.

I just phoned the doc to ask him about the chest pains, he said its normal and has something to do with the band and me being sensitive to it, he assures me that it will settle down with time. So fingers crossed that we don't have a heart attack and think its just the band! :)

A few questions he asked:

1) Do I have a shortness of breath - NO

2) Is the chest pain going through to my back - No

3) Is it only after I have eaten - NO ( I actually woke up with it today!)

4) Do I have any funny sensations in my legs - NO

If you have answered yes to any of these then maybe you should phone your doc and just check that all is well. But I'm sure were all just experiencing something that is quite common.

Wow, I felt fairly good from the day of surgery on... the biggest pain I had was my right shoulder from the gas. And, my surgeon had to re-route my stomach (it was entirely in my chest cavity) by cutting my diaphragm and moving my stomach south (literally! HA!). Anyway, I took gas-x strips and it helped with the gas, SO much!

I TRULY hope you feel better soon! I'll keep ya in my prayers!

Oh my, I was just reading what everyone wrote and I am a little scared. I just finished my consulation with the Dr. and decided to go with the LB instead of GBS. Someone had wrote that the only problem they were experiencing was that they were starving. I was told that the cravings go away IMMEDIATELY after the surgery. Is this not true? I always feel hungry knowing that I cant be. But, indulge anyways. I am also concerned about the puree diet. I think I can handle the liquid diet but worry about the mushed diet. I am a meat and potatoe girl and dont think I can do the baby food. Any suggestions? Really concerned here!

You will have this post op diet regardless if you are banded or have a bypass

After surgery you aren't hungry but as you heal and the swelling goes down your hungry does return. Once you get proper restriction - which can be your first fill or your 10th (it is diff for everyone & some people have restriction just from the band being in place and don't need a fill for quite a while) You don't have to do baby food - you have to have the texture of baby food. This is where protien powder and drinks come in real handy. I ate refried Beans, mashed potatoes, soft mushied up fish - zuchinne cooked real good.

Being a meats & potato girl is what got you to the place where you are looking into bariatric surgery... The band is only a TOOL just like bypass is only a tool - it will be up to you to make healthy food choices and add exercise into your life. People who have been banded or have bypass can and do gain their weight back - Also it does depend on what your drug of choice is - are you a sweet eater or just an over eater - candy & ice cream goes right through the band - where as w/bypass you will dump - and have malnutriional problems ..

Horsegirl - it doesn't matter which you choose - they both have their problems - it's a personal choice - but what you have to understand that with either of the surgeries - NO MORE FOOD IN THE QUAINTIES OR QUALITIES THAT YOU ARE USE TO EATING IF YOU WANT TO BE SUCCESSFUL... Neither of these surgeries are our quick fix magic cure to our food issues - you will still have head hungry (eating when you aren't really hungry just cuz it taste good) This is a lifetime lifestyle change - not a quick fix...

IMHO if you are going to do something as drastic as surgery you better be ready to put the work in to loss the weight.. and let me tell you at times it is work and other times it not.

Keep researching - ask questions - there are other surgeries you can have too VGS - but they all require heathly food choices & exercise by you (the one with the brain) cuz they only band your tummy and not the brain and half the problem lies in our mind not our tummies.

Good luck on your journey....

IndioGirl55, thanks for your honesty, I am up for the challenge, but am scared of failure. I have dieted and lost LOTS of weight just to gain it back. I do not like a variety of foods and dont know how to go about eating them without gagging like a child. I started on this journey thinking I was going to do GBS and changed my mind because it seemed somewhat safer. I have a co-worker who did go with Bypass and said I was crazy for going with the LB. There is concern with maintenance but with that I still think it is better than realigning your intestines and being a permanent change. Thank you for taking time to give me a few more facts that I did not know.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
