what to expect...

Please tell me what to expect....I am having my pre-op EGD next Thursday. I'm told it's no big deal, but all of a sudden I have this incredible gag reflex just thinking about it!

Daisy,

I work in an outpatient surgery dept. and we do EGD's every day. They will put an IV in you and give you medication to sedate you. They may also spray your throat with a numbing spray. It's a VERY quick procedure, usually around 15minutes long. Don't worry, you'll do great!

Hello Daisey

I too was nervous about the procedure. Thought I was going to feel something. I woke up wandering if anything had been done. I felt nothing and remembered nothing (smile). Don't worry!!!

Jamie, I was told that the reason I needed it was because I had a history of acid reflux. Other than those circumstances my doctor only does them on by-pass or stomach staple candidates. But, they like checking to make sure there is no damage to the esophegas due to acid. If there is, then the lap band cannot be done at that time.
