TMI POST...Hello, I had my RNY on Tues 2/25. I'm currently on clear liquid diet only for 10 days. I've been drinking water, propel, crystal light. WELL I have very runny bowels and it's really dark. My Dr office is closed today so I'm just wondering if it's normal to be that dark? Not sure how to know if blood is mixed in and there's a problem.

Does your doctor have you taking vitamins with iron? That can certainly turn your poop dark. If it IS blood, as long as you are asymptomatic for blood loss (rapid heart rate, low BP, dizzy or fainting) you should be able to wait until your doctor is open again. However, if you ARE showing these symptoms, you should go to the ER asap.

ps I am not a doctor, but I play one on TV (remember that old Vicks cough syrup commercial?)

could just be iron - or blood from the surgery. LIke others have said, if you're having other symptoms like a fever, I'd go to the ER. Otherwise, call your clinic on Monday and just let them know (if nothing else, for peace of mind)

I had diarrhea starting from the day after surgery for ten days. My doctor didn't seem worried.

I have only had a few firm BM since my surgery. I do have dumping syndrome as a norm and mostly my BM is like diarrhea or worse. Sometimes it may be up to 4 days before a BM but then it is 2-3 days of a lot of going to the bathroom.
